Why Roberto Martinez's Style of Play Will Make Everton an EPL Threat

I disagree. If we win, then I enjoy and am happy. We get the three points, what's not to like?

If you don't enjoy the football you might as well just sit at home or do something else and just wait for the result to come on the TV. I don't understand this way of thinking. Yes we all want the three points but surely its is still should be entertaining.

This for me. A mix is needed. Arsenal were so close to having the ultimate team few years back (fab era) they were the best side to watch bar none, but always fell just short. And that was not being able to mix it up when needed.

Moyes had it right start of last season, we mixed it up brilliantly but it changed as the season went on. As injurys took hold, players form dropped, we went more and more direct to fellaini and the passing game got less and less! Was a shame really.

As for RM I've been impressed with him so far. He's got us passing, keeping possession and dominating, yet he's not completely ruled out the odd direct balls from time to time (yet). IMO it's always gota be option if needed. You spend 80 mins passing and getting nowhere from a resolute defence, what better than to change last 10 and throw them into confusion!?

I would say it was more to do with us conceding a few late goals. he went back to keep it tight and try and nick one.

The game is expensive these days and we should get a decent game of football for it, its the points that matter, what bothered is when we draw and its a boring game, and I'm like well that was a waste of money.

What bothers me is that people buy into this myth that if you play dour, direct, cautious football you will automatically get better results than if you play proper possession football. Moyes showed on countless occasions that dour football doesn't always get you results and we struggled on multiple occasions. If we are going to struggle getting wins I would rather we did so playing proper joined up football.

Imagine if we had stevie g la playing for us....... All of or supposed hoofballs would automatically become long raking passes....wouldn't that be wonderful.

ha ha so true

goes to show even theyve been mixin it up, dont see why we won't, especiallyt with lukaku

Losing the ball is not exciting. If we won a nice high percentage of aerial duels I for one wouldn't mind but they're so difficult and unpredictable that relying on them results in a really boring scrappy game for the most part. That's why I prefer a passing game, evidently whatever creates the most chances is the best but I like to be entertained and involved I.e have Everton on the ball as much as possible

I don't think doing it last ten minutes is going to confuse anyone as that's when all teams are desperate if they haven't scored. Better to play the odd long ball throughout the 90 minutes

Nothing wrong with the long ball if it is the right thing at the right time. Let's not fetishise tiki taka. We all want to see Everton play School of Science stuff and RM is exactly what we want in that sense but let's not be obsessed.

There's always a place for the long ball, but that place is hitting teams on the counter-attack, not using it to bypass play in the midfield as a shortcut to getting around the opposing defence.

Of course, possession isn't the be all, what you do with the ball is important too, but you do need to actually HAVE the ball in the first place. :)
