Why Roberto Martinez's Style of Play Will Make Everton an EPL Threat

I for 1 couldnt give a toss how we play.

I just wanna win, if that means we launch balls into orbit I honestly dont care, I just want my team to win games, if I wanted to be entertained I would watch a film.

This has to be the strangest comment I have ever heard from someone who pays to watch a match.

yeah but.......how did you get into football into first place?? by watching exciting, entertaining football i would guess. if everyone played % win at all costs football, then no one would watch it!

Pretty sure I played football before I watched a game.

Back in my day there wasnt the wall to wall football on tele we have these days.

And also in those days it wasnt all this fancy dan crap, real men played it.

i remember watching the liverpool/everton final in 87 or whenever when i was 8...got bored and went for kickabout with me mates, followed by some camp building and karate kid impressions, should stuck to that instead of this supporting nonsense!

When I got into footy I was only interested in the result. Now I love it when we play well and win. I've grown to hate it when we play well and lose. I'm happy when we play **** and win, so overall, it's about the winning, the playing nice is a bonus only.

but to support a team so passionately surely you have to be passionate about the actual sport and enjoy watching, obs now and again i love a scrappy win..but not every week!

I agree with points being more important than entertainment, but there is such a thing as exciting and entertaining direct football, and there is most definitely such a thing as boring and defensive passing football which isn't entertaining in the slightest.

Passing football and entertainment are not necessarily synonymous, there are times when a passing game can be far more boring than a direct game.

That explains our woeful defensive record under Moyes whilst Wigan were pumping out clean sheet after clean sheet with their possession style.

Last season in the PL and FA Cup combined Everton had 11 clean sheets and Wigan had 10 clean sheets

Hoofball is what we played when we had Cahill and Johnson/Beattie etc playing up top. Last season we mixed short and long passing and made good use of all our players attributes. The first half of last season showed that can be effective if it's done right and comes with other options.

This for me. A mix is needed. Arsenal were so close to having the ultimate team few years back (fab era) they were the best side to watch bar none, but always fell just short. And that was not being able to mix it up when needed.

Moyes had it right start of last season, we mixed it up brilliantly but it changed as the season went on. As injurys took hold, players form dropped, we went more and more direct to fellaini and the passing game got less and less! Was a shame really.

As for RM I've been impressed with him so far. He's got us passing, keeping possession and dominating, yet he's not completely ruled out the odd direct balls from time to time (yet). IMO it's always gota be option if needed. You spend 80 mins passing and getting nowhere from a resolute defence, what better than to change last 10 and throw them into confusion!?

Imagine if we had stevie g la playing for us....... All of or supposed hoofballs would automatically become long raking passes....wouldn't that be wonderful.
