Yes, he did appear to pick his games at times, but :
A) Apart from a short spell with Hinchcliffe in the team, who did he ever have to supply crosses? Most of his supply was hoofed up the middle, often from keeper’s boot.
If he’d had Dave Thomas or Sheedy/Steven to feed him, he would have been unstoppable.
B) At his best he was on another level. Did the business in derbies. One performance away at OT is still to this day the most dominant I’ve ever seen with my own eyes! Hopeful lump into the box, straight to Schmeichel. Duncan nicked it from in his hands & smashed him & scored. NOBODY did that to Peter Scmeicel. Then scores a worldy from the edge of the box.


Everton have hung out many players over the last 30 years. It’s a team/squad game. You can only do so much without enough good players around you. He could win everything in the air, it’s not his fault he rarely had the supply.
