Van Dijk, De Ligt, Koulibaly, Chiellini, Ramos, Alexander-Arnold, Laporte, Alderweireld, Godin, Hummels, Thiago Silva & Robertson,

In terms of quality, these players are of comparable quality to those you listed. It's just nostalgia that tells you they were far better.

Modric (ballon d'or winner), De Bruyne, Kante, Silva, Busquets, Fernandinho, Kroos, Henderson, Kimmich, Pogba, Wijnaldum, Casemiro, De Jong and Fabinho.

Again, I think in 10 years time that neutral fans will look back on this period and these lists of players and reminisce that they were excellent Footballers.

Hahahahahahahahahahaha

People dream of becoming footballers for the insane financial rewards and self promotion now, rather than having heart and desire to represent a clubs ethos and fans.

It was every kids dream to play for the club you supported when I was little.

That has long gone, and the game is far poorer imo.
Sounds like whimsical nonsense to be honest mate, doubt theres many in the prem that didn't love footy just as much as the previous generation

Its a poor season in terms of quality, bar Big Red who are playing superbly.

Im not sure I buy into the whole league has suddenly gone cack tho, I think its more the fact that the "bigger teams" are struggling, the "poorer teams" have 150m a season from Sky and everybody can beat everybody, more so than in other times.

English clubs dominated Europe last season and will probably do the same again.

If you wanted to have a has the standard of football in general gone poorer? Then I will defo sign up for that, wheres the real World Class players? I mean you could look at teams all over Europe and there were MONSTER players. Now we have bog-standard jokers like VVD considered the best defender in the world and nobody else even comes close. Whos the best Keeper in the world? The best midfielder? I mean up top you have CR7 and Messi, but other than them, who?
i agree
Even Neymar cant hold a candle to some of the great Brazilians of yesteryear
i think a lot of stuff is coached out of kids in academies these days and its a worldwide trend
I can remember Engalnd having Banks Shilton and Bonetti as goalkepers
Now its pickford ,Pope and god knows who,
Where are the Zidanes,Maradonna,Cruyff,Rijyard of yesterday
Maybe Mbappe will hit the heights but not at psg

It's just the cumulative effect of Man City running out of gas after two titles, Chelsea being in rebuild mode, Spurs form dropping off a clip and Mourinho not doing much to help it, Man Utd continuing their post-Ferguson shambles with a bang average manager, Arsenal lacking the investment on the pitch they need.

Basically, all of the big teams are at a low point and it means anyone can beat them. They'll come back but it'll take a while.
I am not sure Spurs or Arsenal will if I am being honest
Spurs will not spend money because
A) Levy and Lewis are tight and run Spurs as a business
B ) The stadium has to be paid for
Kronke will not spend money because he uses Arsenal as a cash cow for his American franchises
CL qualification will do for both of these
United are a mess post Ferguson and will spend money but spend it poorly and OGS is a poor manager
I am surprised they did not go for Ancelotti to steady the ship
Chelsea are slipping because Abramovich seems to be losing interest and Lampard has a lot to prove and youth will only get you so far
The [Poor language removed] got lucky with KLOPP but I can see a scandal hitting there soon
City will come good again because they have the money

I certainly subscribe to the belief that the general standard of football right now is at a much lower ebb than it was compared to say, 10-15 years ago.

In terms of the Premier League, I don't know if it's just because they are a bit of an unknown quantity, but a team like Sheffield United should never be troubling the top places in a good. They are just a hardworking, well drilled unit with very little quality in it. We have been largely shambolic yet could very realistically finish in the European places.

I don't think Liverpool are a special side, they are very good but I don't consider them a patch on the best teams this league has had yet they will outpoint all of those sides this season. They are a very good team in a very poor league at the moment.
liverpools midfield would not get near their midfield of the 80s or 90s

The league is only gone cack cos the RS are winning it. No other reason obvs.
If City were winning it by 22 points then it would still be massively competitive, but City would be hailed as outstanding.

Get a bit of perspective, lads.

No the league was better last year because it was a competition, this year it's been over by Christmas, no league is healthy if that was the case, no matter who won it. Next year I can see it being between the same two teams as last year. I want a league were four or five have a decent chance of winning and that is no bias at all.

If they weren't who they were, be honest, you'd feel differently.

Back to back European Cup finals, breaking pretty much all records over the last 2 years. League title this year. Them 3 have played just as consistently as the much lauded front 3 or their back 5.

Struggling to knock them to be honest.

Also helped them enormously that they are hardly ever injured. Van Dyke I agree with, far too early to rate Robertson and Arnold in that company, after one or two seasons. And Henderson, Fabinho and Wjnaldum, although decent players, do me a favour, haha.

They are injured, they've had more injuries than all but two Premier League teams. It's a myth that they don't suffer injuries. It's just not the leg-break to VVD that you hoped for.

It's also not 'one or two seasons'. It's 3 as a minimum. They reached the CL final 2 years ago, they reached it again last year and won it, along with a record points haul in the league, this year they had the league wrapped up by Christmas and can now rest players for their European games, it'd be a brave person who rules them out winning the CL again. 3 full seasons competing at the very highest level.

I just don't see how, with that record, you can sit there and scoff at the three players who've been central to that run. Some bloke rang in talkSPORT the other day saying Henderson was basically Mark Noble and yet all the ex-pro's are tipping him for player of the year. It's quite a gulf in opinion, isn't it?.
