Wigan was in the FA Cup though mate, Goodison has been a fortress this season with only a very good Chelsea side leaving it with 3 points.

I honestly don't think a West Ham side with a very poor record on the road this season would do the same.

I am aware it was a cup game. Don't see why that makes any difference though. Just pointing out that results don't always go the way you might expect. 3 points is never guaranteed.

FA Cup defeat was different circumstances in terms of the League, we just never turned up that day and Wigan wanted it more than us.

This year, 35 games. We've won 15, drawn 14, lost 6. They've won 14, drawn 12, lost 9.

Last year, 38 games. We won 15, drew 11, lost 12. They won 14, drew 10, lost 14.

2010-11, 38 games. We won 13, drew 15, lost 10. They won 17, drew 7, lost 14.

2009-10, 38 games. We won 16, drew 13, lost 9. They won 18, drew 9, lost 11.

So since they sold alonso we've won 59, drawn 53 and lost 37. 230 points in 149 games.

They've won 63, drawn 38 and lost 48. 227 points in 149 games.

Comparing these current two teams purely on league form, we're pretty clearly the better one.

Go back earlier and it's less pretty.

2008-09, 38 games. We won 17, drew 12, lost 9. They won 25, drew 11, lost 2.

2007-08, 38 games. We won 19, drew 8, lost 11. They won 21, drew 13, lost 4.

2006-07, 38 games. We won 15, drew 13, lost 10. They won 20, drew 8, lost 10.

2005-06, 38 games. We won 14, drew 8, lost 16. They won 25, drew 7, lost 6.

2004-05, 38 games. We won 18, drew 7, lost 13. They won 17, drew 7, lost 14.

So since we sold rooney we've won 142, drawn 101 and lost 96. 527 points from 339 games.

They won 171, drew 84 and lost 84. 597 points from 339 games.

West Ham have a crap away record, with more losses away from home than any team other than Reading and QPR.

Everton have the best home record in the league after City and United, winning 11 games and only losing one.

West Ham's record against Everton at Goodison is poor, with us winning 62% of the matches played.

It's massively negative to say we'll draw or lose, never mind saying Fulham will also lose to Liverpool at home.

battle of the stats, well played lads.

i just hope we don't go in with the mentality of a draw will be good enough. i'm sure we wont, but we not only have the chance to beat them, but rip them a new one. Even if we only play like we did yesterday, first game of clinical finishing of the season at the pit would be bliss.

for everyone saying yeah but they hit 6 past newcastle ... we're not newcastle. Does everyone look past the fact united's multi million strikeforce drew a blank against us? does everyone ignore the fact man city's multi multi million attacking force scored a debateble pen in 180 mins vs us. an arsenal team which won 2-0 at the probably champions league winners didn't score past us either.

we are in a totally different league to newcastle, especially when it comes to defending. funny how people seem to only look at those sort of games rather than the ones where liverpool got ripped apart by mighty aston villa and mighty southampton.

we're consistantly the better team and quality wise

Some of the negativity in this thread is pathetic.

.....this is a fair point. Imagine if our situations were reversed, they wouldn't be in the least bit concerned about us, they'd be still thinking about top 4. Perhaps we should reflect that both Spurs and Arsenal could wobble and if Chelsea have a UEFA final coming up and a guaranteed top 4 berth then we might be facing weakened side at the Bridge.

We need to play smart to beat them. If we do what we usually try to do against them at Anfield (last season discounted) which is control the game with possession then it will just play right into their hands and they will smash us off it and pilfer a few on the break. Brenda had no idea what to do with the team in the first half of the season - pass and move was an alien concept to that lot, he then realised what every Liverpool manager since Houllier has done that if Gerrard is in the team he's only good if you play kick and rush counter attacking football. Rafael had perfected it in 2009.

If we do our stupid tippy tappy stuff in and around the box with Baines and Coleman abandoning their defensive positions then it plays straight into their hands. Carragher will be able to do his dug in bunker impersonation bcause he won't have to move out of his six yard box. If we lose it then Gerrard and Sturridge will only have to run past a slow Osman and Gibson to be in at our back 2. The way to play Liverpool (pride swallowing as it may be) is to sit back let them have and do them on the break. Man U realise that, all the kopites every year go on about how bad the mancs are at Anfield yet they always seem capable of getting a result. Villa, West Brom, Southampton, they have all done the same thing. If you restrict the space and pressure Gerrard and get him facing the other way then he is horrendously average (as every decent international team in the world has figured out - shame it seems to be beyond the managers in the prem). He has a fat touch and little guile. Equally Henderson, Downing et al have no footballing brains either, they will just run fast and strong in a straight line if you give them that space. They almost did us at Goodison despite the fact even with Gueye, Osman Neviile and Naismith in midfield we dominated them. If we play like an away team at Anfield we may well win. They're not good enough to break down even the most average of defenses if it chooses to defend. If we go there and try and do what we did to Fulham in the last match then we'll get done. They have been doing it for years to far better teams than us, massed defence, everyone back and playing only on the counter. Most teams have too much self pride to play that way at home, Liverpool naturally have no problem with it.

We'll win if Moyes and a few of the regulars jib the inferiority complex that they've got regarding Liverpool despite being a better team. Which means we'll lose.

That is the best thing i have read for ages

Barkley in behind, Gibson back in, Fellaini deeper, Osman to the bench. Get someone to follow Gerrard round like a weird stalker - he's their driving force and biggest threat.

Osman will play lads.

Liverpool have more pace and guile than us but lack our stability as a team ... the deciding factor will be attitude.

Oh dear!
