2 goals against QPR doesn't mean Jelavic is 'in form'.

A striker who scores two goals in a game has done his job in that game, and Lukaku needs a rest / kick up the arse. I'm not going to argue with you about the definition of form, because you have made your mind up about Jelavic and nothing will change that.

The fact remains, we can run Lukaku into the ground, or give Jelavic some time when his confidence is up as a result of this performance. He could be gone in a week and then your choices are Kone in a wheelchair, or Velios. I say use Jelavic while he's here. If he sucks balls against Norwich, sub him at halftime.

He will have had ten days off by the time of the Norwich match mate. We then don't have a game for 8 days as we play the following Monday.

Lukaku can easily play one match in eighteen days.

'In form' hahahaha.

He's scored 2 against possibly the worst defence to come to Goodison this season and missed a penalty plus what some would describe as a sitter.

In form is when you've done it for 3+ games. He did well today but that's not form. He's done nothing for over a year but fall over and miss sitters.

One decent game doesn't make him Batistuta all of a sudden.

Doesn't that dictate that you have to give him a run of three games to establish his "form"?

That's a nice corner you've backed yourself into.

Or alternatively we can choose to rest him, give him a decent break, and get a fresher Lukaku the rest of the season, theirs a reason a lot of leagues have those mid season breaks mate and theirs a reason theirs a off season also, its to allow players to recharge, and Lukaku atm needs to recharge a blind man could see that

Indeed he can. But he can rest a hell of a lot more in eighteen days than he can in ten, and by Christ he needs a rest. Put him and Velios on the bench for Norwich - if we're losing at halftime Lukaku comes on, if we're winning Velios gets a run out.

If you won't give Jelavic a start against the likes of Norwich, straight after he's scored two at home and been rewarded with 40,000 Evertonians chanting his name, how else are you hoping to restore his confidence? We need him to play in order to drive up his value - he can't be worth any less at this point.

to do that your dropping one of Barkley, Barry or James mac

Yes I'd drop Barkley to experiment with Jelavic and Lukaku up front. Give it a go for one half at least.

One way or another we need back-up options to Lukaku alone up front (whether that involves Jelly or not). I'd just as easy see Jelly sold and a new lad tried up there.

Barkley has nothing to prove. He's class. A break for half a match and let him come on steaming in the second half wouldn't harm anyone.

Any striker that has a barren spell and then starts scoring goals becomes more confident.

Lukaku has needed a break for a while now. We should ride the Jelavic wave of momentum; it may not last long, but he'll be full of beans now and I think if he started against Norwich next week he'd be in a great frame of mind to score again, hopefully.

It's not an issue of confidence.

People were saying Jelavic's issue was confidence at the start of last season. Every time he scored people said that would give him 'confidence'.

He's simply not good enough for the Premier League. He had a fantastic run when he came in January, then he was utterly figured out and hasn't been any good since.

I'd be happy to let him play in the FA Cup, but he's had countless chances in the league. You have to get to a point where you say enough is enough.

When Jelavic scored that late winner against Spurs I am sure people said the same thing about confidence and that he would start banging them in again

Give Jelavic 50-60 mins, if he doesn't do anything, bring Lukaku on. Against someone like Norwich at hoe it will be worth playing him to see if he gets a goal or 2 to put .5m on top of his price tag, also Lukaku would benefit from an extended break.

I totally disagree. I do think it's confidence. He looked a totally different player once he scored. Even Ronnie Goodlass said it on Radio Merseyside.
