While I do think that today's performance may kick start a bit of confidence in Jelavic, I'd go with Lukaku.

Give Jelavic a go I say, not necessarily because he did well today, but because Lukaku needs a rest and a boot up the arse. He's fell into the trap of knowing he won't lose his place and so he's not trying as hard, happens with nearly all players.

Only sensible comment on here so far.

You should always start your form players, otherwise how on earth can you expect ANY player to work hard to produce good form?

I agree that Lukaku is the better player, but he's been leading the line since September and rarely been subbed off, and the fatigue has started to show. Jelavic can view this as an opportunity to force himself back into contention with us, or at least generate some interest in him from other teams. The only risk is that he might not play that well, but if that's the case you sub him off and bring Lukaku on.

This.

Lukaku can make an impact off the bench if Jelavic doesn't perform.

Then if Jelavic doesn't play well, we'll have a much fresher Lukaku for the next game.

Still Lukaku, but after today's game, Jela will have done his confidence some good and I wouldn't be upset seeing him start

2 goals against QPR doesn't mean Jelavic is 'in form'.

Lukaku

He'll have loads of rest after sitting today.

Anyone comparing Lukaku getting a start to the days of Neville starting are talking out of their arses. Neville was IMO one of the worst players in the Prem and started every week. Lukaku while not in the best run of form still scares the crap out of defenders.

Good to see Jelly coming around though.

'In form' hahahaha.

He's scored 2 against possibly the worst defence to come to Goodison this season and missed a penalty plus what some would describe as a sitter.

In form is when you've done it for 3+ games. He did well today but that's not form. He's done nothing for over a year but fall over and miss sitters.

One decent game doesn't make him Batistuta all of a sudden.
