We must never leave Goodison

I'd love us to spend good money doing Goodison up, I'm not expert on footprints etc but I'd like us to find a way. It's not just the old lady but the area, the walk up, the familiar sites and boozers. I heart L4.

like froggy said `the owners are dead set against re-development` i think its true because look at the size of the car park- we are not land-locked, you could almost build a new ground next to goodison its so big, but the powers that be at EFC come up with excuse after excuse to say its not possible.

It's seems that we can't afford to redo Goodison in the short or medium term.

So why not scale down this stadium talk and just concentrate on wanting one stand to be completely re done properly and with a future vision of a fully redeveloped Goodison.

For me, if I had to pick one stand, I'd go with the Main Stand. This is probably the hardest due to Goodison Road jutting in by the Park End, but if you get the hardest out of the way first, then we can push all this stadium talk to one side for a bit and we can concentrate back on the football

As far as I have followed the debate any realistic option for re-development and expansion of GP involves moving the pitch towards the Park End. Whilst I am not an expert I suspect this is not quite as simple as getting the whole squad to grab the edge of the pitch and pull really hard - does this mean we would have to temporarily use another stadium for home games or is a close season long enough to do the work? Even if it is presumably all of the stands will need moving or else they will be out of kilter with the pitch so it may be best to have a year away and do the job properly?

WE cant even afford ot buy a player. how are we going to afford to redevolop Goodison. Then while you are you loose revenue from less fans as that part of the stadium is closed. Basically without either a hell of a lot of luck and getting 4th we need a new owner. Or bill to win the euro millions tonight

I think most of us take it as given that this would not be possible without new owners who have the requisite funds. As you say in your following post, a major cost (and stumbling block) would be buying up any surrounding houses needed for the expansion (but see the video link below). I think this is a major factor in the present Board's assertion that redeveloping Goodison is impracticable.

Redeveloping Goodison would take years no doubt, and would definitely cause disruption during the process, but i'm sure most fans would put up with it if it meant having a much better stadium as an end result.

This YouTube video seems to me an exciting vision of what a redeveloped Goodison could look like, and interestingly there appears to be minimal disruption to the surrounding housing stock. I love the way the Prince Rupert's Tower motif has been incorporated into the design. Improving the surrounding area could perhaps be done at a later date in co-operation with the city council:

Very much ^^^^^ this

I mate I know is a Civil Engineer and I talked to him a couple of years ago about redeveloping Goodison. We had a walk round and he reckoned it could be done but it'd be much easier, and cheaper, to start again somewhere else. My head knows ( despite the KEIOC stuff ) that this is true. My gut feeling is that KEIOC asked a consultant to give them an answer and the consultant gave them the answer that they wanted, knowing he'd never have to deliver it. Sadly, that kind of thing happens a lot. If money is no option then it can happen. If profit is the main motivator, then it won't.

We just need to update again. We did it in the 70's when we replaced the main stand, that was a fairly big job....

Fact is its killing us, maybe a redevlopment would be possible under a new regime, under this one it will never happen. Prob bing not having a new ground is a major impedement to having new owners.

I think the whole footprint is to small for the type of ground and area Everton would need to progress, 55.000 min with room for expansion. Think Kings Dock.

Kings Dock was a one off and I would have loved it to happen. I do remember though that many fans were set against it, and i now realise that they were right. We all know that it would be cheaper and easier to build on a greenfield site. BUT, it wouldn't be Goodison and it wouldn't be filled with all of the memories of great players or the great games nor even of the ashes of those wonderful fans for whom GP is their last resting place. It's easy to knock something down, it takes minutes, it takes generations to build something special.......

So its a choice of a lifetime of reliving past glories in an old stadium or giving ourselves the ability to make new great times and see great players in a new ground.

Thats the way i see it to be honest. Everton is more then bricks and morter, its not the ground you feel its Everton, we're passed Goodison for me, trust me sitting in the Bullens in late Jan at - 3, collecting piles and giving yourself whiplash looking around the supports at the game, can only make you feel like Goodisons time has come - in its present guise at least - personaly i think the footprint is to small for a redevelopment that will push us on.

*Waits for someone to say just stick a hotel on.

Chicago stadium was awesome, looked very similar to goodison, old, imposing, compact and towering over the ice.

I'd really miss goodison. I don't think the arsenal fans are that happy with the emirates....
At least they are financially viable because of it though,
