We must never leave Goodison

(y) Mine too. Check out Song To A Seagull if you haven't already done so. Simple acoustic songs, but utterly beautiful imo, the soulful outpourings of a young woman, before life got in the way.......
Clouds, Blue and a lot of her 70s stuff like Hissing of summer lawns, Hejira and Don Juan's reckless daughter are on my list of best LPs ever. Genius.

Blue's my favourite Joni album

*cd going on now, back in 33 mins

Yes, that was my first introduction to Joni and it's a brilliant album. I was doing a summer job between school and college, and a girl there insisted on my listening to it. When i brought it back after the weekend saying it wasn't bad, i liked the first song, she insisted i take it back and have another listen, and i finally got the message and fell in love with Joni.

Not necessarily. Major League Baseball figured out with the latest wave of stadium construction that by making the capacity smaller, you create demand for tickets where it didn't exist before. Then you fill the stadium with all sorts of amenities that cost money and you get rich off of that. People get excited to attend games at a full house, not a half-filled barn.

Of course, Major League Baseball also extorts communities to pay for their stadiums by threatening to move to a different city. They've elevated that crap to an art form.

Ok, back on topic as requested! ;-) Goodison doesn't have a problem with filling the stadium (at least, not at the moment). It has been identified that more capacity is needed to capitalise on existing demand. Having said that, irony or not, i don't support moving out of the city, and think it's a disgrace that Liverpool City Council have dragged their feet on finding alternative sites (after the sad demise of the King's Dock project) within the city boundary.

A downside to Goodison is the fact that a few thousand seats are obstructed views due to posts. Might be a reason we we don't usually get above 35,000. People don't wanna pay 35 quid not knowing exactly how bad the obstruction is unless it's the derby or one of the other top games.

Good point. The artists impressions of a redeveloped Goodison, to be found on YouTube, look good though, and would presumably resolve this issue as well as increasing ground capacity. I know the current owners are dead set against redeveloping Goodison as an option, but new owners might see things differently, although i wouldn't be against a move if it was within the city boundary.

Not listened to this for ages, thanks to peteblue and frank.

Goodison though and a new stadium. If we build a 45 / 50,000 seater stadium, will
we fill it on a regular basis ? I'd like to think we would but I guess the reality is that we only would if we were a CL team - Catch22

Back to Joni ...

"How long can you hang around ?"
I said "a week, maybe two,
Just until my skin turns brown
Then I'm going home ...

My kind of woman

Great to see some Joni fans on here, not what i'd have expected on an Everton board (have discussed Joni elsewhere on music forums).

Back to Goodison...

Yes, but if we had a bigger capacity, and hence increased revenue, we would be better able to afford to assemble a squad that could compete in Europe.

My kind of Everton. ;-)

Bigger capacity only means bigger revenue if you get more bums on seats. In a nutshell, I think that's where the problem lies, getting another 5 to 10,000 peeps to part with 35 quid every 2 weeks.

Unless we get Joni to sing at half-time, in which case, job's a good un

I'd love us to spend good money doing Goodison up, I'm not expert on footprints etc but I'd like us to find a way. It's not just the old lady but the area, the walk up, the familiar sites and boozers. I heart L4.

You're talking major investment there, involving the City Council and the private sector. It would be great if it happened, but under the current climate highly unlikely. However, maybe a redevelopment of Goodison would provide a catalyst for redevelopment of the environs at a later date when the economy picked up.

Yeah, but I can dream mate!

The houses there are the cheapest in the country. It will take time but the clock is at 15 years and counting to move away from Goodison, I wouldn't expect it to have took 15 years to buy whatever land we needed.

I'd happily sell a player to buy up land.

Oh another point, St Luke's is great, I love the old pictures where it's in view, I'd like it to return to view

On Edge Lane they were buying houses to knock down to improve the road. It took 7 years to get the final women out and she fought tooth and nail to keep her house. in the end she gave up. That could easly happen to us. These are peoples homes, where their kids grow up. were some of them grow up. Buy a loads of houses isnt as fast and easy as it sounds. Would you just sell your house so Liverpool can build a new stadium?

WE cant even afford ot buy a player. how are we going to afford to redevolop Goodison. Then while you are you loose revenue from less fans as that part of the stadium is closed. Basically without either a hell of a lot of luck and getting 4th we need a new owner. Or bill to win the euro millions tonight
