Can't you just knock down all those dodgy looking houses around it and make it bigger???
It's not rocket science here people.
we only need to move the park end back to sort the chuch problem out. the park end stand is designed in a way as to be dismantled and enlargenedIt cost money to buy the people out of thier homes. and they might not sell. Liverpool we stook for years because 2 women wouldn't sell their homes to them. Its not that simple. Not to mention there is also a school that would need to be knocked down. We would have to build a new school. We also have that bloody church thats a listed building and can't be touched.
"That was Big Yellow Taxi by Joni Mitchell, a song in which Joni complains they 'Paved paradise to put up a parking lot', a measure which actually would have alleviated traffic congestion on the outskirts of paradise, something which Joni singularly fails to point out, perhaps because it doesn't quite fit in with her blinkered view of the world. Nevertheless, nice song."

As a Chicagoan, though, I can tell you that I love Wrigley Field, but the Cubs have never once won a World Series in the place. More appropriately, I cried when the Blackhawks moved out of the old Chicago Stadium, and I still miss it.

I think you're misinterpreting the song there, Frank. My take on it is that she is singing about an inner city green area that has been paved over to provide more parking space, to pander to commercial needs at the expense of the spritual needs of society. This sort of thing was happening a lot during the commercial boom of the 1960s when the song was written.
Joni is a goddess and a genius of songwriting imo. Her lyrics are poetry, and yes, as a result sometimes idealistic as opposed to realistic. She is a true hippie child. One of my favourite albums is her very first, Song To A Seagull: stripped-down acoustic songs with achingly beautiful lyrics. Joni can paint vivid pictures with her words.
Just my opinion of course.......![]()
Um ... isn't Solider Field an example of an alternate idea?
A few of the US teams have realized the new stadium competition is never ending and have renovated the old places (to mostly great success).
If we ever sold the team (which I am not confident will happen) it will all depend on the buyer. Someone who is just kind of rich will have to build a cookie-cutter new stadium; someone with enough money could relocate the school and houses and renovate Goodison. You can't buy the history of Goodison -- in the right hands with the right promotion it can sell more tickets than a shiny new stadium.
