VAR - the death of football (as I know it)

FFS...can we not, as civilised human beings, trust a man/woman who has trained for years to get to the position they're in to carry out their job correctly and allow them the odd wee mistake without moaning like a bunch of feckin' bed wettin' millennials who'd rather settle for a 0-0 vs Stoke (or some other such gash) than see a debatable 1-0 or 0-1 - referee mistakes can work in your favour as well as against lest us not forget?

Sit two people down in front of a dodgy penalty decision and you'll very likely get two different opinions anyway so how can you trust VAR when it's still down to one person's assessment?

It's the death of football, so it is. I'm glad I'm old school and not part of this moaning, whinging, sore-loser, society that's creeping into almost everything these days.

It's a game ffs. Entertainment. Let's not tear the soul out of it and let's not start pretending it's more important that nurses, surgeons, emergency service personnel etc. Jeezus.

(had to get that off my chest)

No

I don't see any issue with VAR

People just don't like change

It's all about money , money, money........VAR is most likely to go in favour of the Sky six .....Money ,money, money !

Along with rolling on the floor when your shirt is brushed...death awaits. It was not designed for TV but is dominated by that audience.

It doesn't matter if he was all over us. The fact is a wrong decision was given against us that shouldn't have been given. Sometimes one team dominates but loses in a fair match, that's football. VAR will serve merely to enshrine an aspect of football that is most romantic. Sometimes another team will batter you, but they won't take their chances and you will, so you win. All VAR does is keep the playing field even

As far as disagreeing with a VAR decision, how many times is that likely to happen? I can think of only one area it might come up. Penalties. That's it. You might not think something is a foul and the VAR might disagree. That's really the only thing I can think off

For all other decisions there won't be that issue

If a players out of play, then they're out of play

If a players offside, then they're offside

These are indisputable events that VAR will prove and they're frankly worth the very small number of contentious decisions the new system might create (Which I'm not convinced it will)

This hysterical reaction to VAR in some circles is ridiculous. What's wrong with having fair results? What's wrong with getting stuff right? Why deny clubs like Everton the chance to play in cup finals because a linesman missed the ball going out? Why not help referees get decisions right?
If we can't abuse the ref and decisions what is the point?

One day in the not too distant future, an AI (robot) will ref games and will have instantaneous access to all the video data.
VAR is just a step in that direction. It will initially slow the game down, but ultimately, when combined with AI you will get a quicker games with no mistakes.
The sooner the better as far as I am concerned
You're very strange .....Do you even realise that football is a human game ?

'The decisions even themselves out in the end' is the supposed theory. Well it does if you're one of the favoured clubs. Take a recent example... Everton get contentious* penalty at Anfield, which is moaned about for the next month. Everton return to Anfield in a Cup tie, 1 derby game later, and within 35 minutes, a contentious penalty is awarded to the RS.

2 penalties in 80 years there tells me the decisions don't even themselves out if you're not one of the favoured clubs.

I'm all for VAR and the ones who will suffer slightly will be the current 'Big 6'.

MLS started using VAR in the middle of last season and for me it was mostly a good thing. The reviews rarely took more than a minute and it led to more penalties and a few more offside calls. The only gripe I had was, for example, Dallas had a goal disallowed in a game I watched because VAR decided the counterattack was started by a foul 90 yards from goal.

Every major American sport has a replay system so I guess I’m not bothered about this.

I think especially considering Sky Sports and other broadcasters will analyse a decision to death after a game it's needed as it puts referees under huge pressure to get the decision right. You've seen how the likes of the RS behave on Twitter etc. when Howard Webb would call a close decision against them, bullets in the post etc. Football fans are utterly metal these days. It's no wonder there's very few people who actually want to get in to refereeing. This may help attract more young referees, which can only be a good thing.
