VAR - the death of football (as I know it)

Yep, I heard it, and he does have a point.

Carragher, for example, could fill a book on the blatant penalties he conceded but didn't concede for starters, that VAR would have caught instantly...

And over the years, John Terry got away with murder in the Chelski penalty area...

And you had to be disembowelled and fed to the prowling wolves before ManUre conceded a penalty at OT...

It would also ruin one of Big Sam's favourite 'game management' tactics too - time wasting!

Not so sure about that. Punting the ball into the stands would stop the clock. A keeper taking forever to take a goal kick once the clock was restarted, on the other hand, could still be penalized with a yellow card.

FFS...can we not, as civilised human beings, trust a man/woman who has trained for years to get to the position they're in to carry out their job correctly and allow them the odd wee mistake without moaning like a bunch of feckin' bed wettin' millennials who'd rather settle for a 0-0 vs Stoke (or some other such gash) than see a debatable 1-0 or 0-1 - referee mistakes can work in your favour as well as against lest us not forget?

Sit two people down in front of a dodgy penalty decision and you'll very likely get two different opinions anyway so how can you trust VAR when it's still down to one person's assessment?

It's the death of football, so it is. I'm glad I'm old school and not part of this moaning, whinging, sore-loser, society that's creeping into almost everything these days.

It's a game ffs. Entertainment. Let's not tear the soul out of it and let's not start pretending it's more important that nurses, surgeons, emergency service personnel etc. Jeezus.

(had to get that off my chest)

I'm OK with using video technology, I think it's mostly a good thing.

I'm not so keen on the acronym though. VAR sounds like the noise a fart would make if it could go back up your arse. I'd prefer to just call it the Video Ref, there are way too many three letter acronyms in use these days

True, the frustration element would remain. But the ability to run down the clock would be vastly diminished. Bunting the ball into the stands is an attempted pass under Sam...

They said it wouldn't work in rugby or cricket but both games are better for it. There will be teething problems as there is with any change of rule but we have to give it a go.

It won’t benefit the big clubs who are used to the majority of decisions going in their favour. That’s why the game has resisted it for so long. I hope there is as much tech as possible because it stops the lying kopite barstewards who make up the bulk of the prem referees from getting away with corrupt decisions week after week.

I am more in favour of the "Minority Report" premise where we employ "pre cogs" to determine the outcome of a dicey decision and imprison the offender before he could commit the offence....mind you the pre cogs would still be former RS...bit like a "diving" panel ??:cool:

After the Mendes goal against United, the game has been crying out for this for years.

How many derbies wouldn't have gone against us with a video ref to give the correct decision rather than the crap bias ref?

Hawkeye would have settled the Mendes goal incident.
