VAR - the death of football (as I know it)

FFS...can we not, as civilised human beings, trust a man/woman who has trained for years to get to the position they're in to carry out their job correctly and allow them the odd wee mistake without moaning like a bunch of feckin' bed wettin' millennials who'd rather settle for a 0-0 vs Stoke (or some other such gash) than see a debatable 1-0 or 0-1 - referee mistakes can work in your favour as well as against lest us not forget?

Sit two people down in front of a dodgy penalty decision and you'll very likely get two different opinions anyway so how can you trust VAR when it's still down to one person's assessment?

It's the death of football, so it is. I'm glad I'm old school and not part of this moaning, whinging, sore-loser, society that's creeping into almost everything these days.

It's a game ffs. Entertainment. Let's not tear the soul out of it and let's not start pretending it's more important that nurses, surgeons, emergency service personnel etc. Jeezus.

(had to get that off my chest)

No.

I tell thee if VAR was around in 66 it would have saved the country years of misplaced 'big time' posturing as world cup winners. It would also have prevented that hideoes lightening seeds / Baddeil and Skinner song in Euro 96. Many years of hurt just wouldn't sound the same...

It needs at least trying, seems to work in other sports, ok they're not the same as footy but at this

Any chance of adding a poll

I was at that game mate and Forlan was all over us, crooked Collina or not.

Injustices go both ways and I've still to hear a decent reply to the question..."what if you don't agree with the VAR decision?"

It doesn't matter if he was all over us. The fact is a wrong decision was given against us that shouldn't have been given. Sometimes one team dominates but loses in a fair match, that's football. VAR will serve merely to enshrine an aspect of football that is most romantic. Sometimes another team will batter you, but they won't take their chances and you will, so you win. All VAR does is keep the playing field even

As far as disagreeing with a VAR decision, how many times is that likely to happen? I can think of only one area it might come up. Penalties. That's it. You might not think something is a foul and the VAR might disagree. That's really the only thing I can think off

For all other decisions there won't be that issue

If a players out of play, then they're out of play

If a players offside, then they're offside

These are indisputable events that VAR will prove and they're frankly worth the very small number of contentious decisions the new system might create (Which I'm not convinced it will)

This hysterical reaction to VAR in some circles is ridiculous. What's wrong with having fair results? What's wrong with getting stuff right? Why deny clubs like Everton the chance to play in cup finals because a linesman missed the ball going out? Why not help referees get decisions right?

In that game, how many unfair decisions against Villareal do you recall? Not many I'd wager.
Poor decisions work both ways and sometimes it's just tough titties. It's a bit of craic', not the end of the world. We'll always be better than anyone else mind. ;)

"Tough titties" isn't good enough I'm afraid, not any more

I spend inordinate amounts of money going to both home and away games, as do many others. This isn't a kick about in the park that you watch whilst walking the dog

Eh?

So why do we disagree with refereeing decisions?

Was Llallama's "Klinsman" effort the other night a peno? Hogate had his arm around him, but he also threw his arms and legs back like a total cheating beaut. It's still going to be up to one person to decide and people will, I guarantee, disagree with it still. It's not progress, it's just picky, sore-loser, shoite.

You're acting like penalties are the only thing this will be used for

I'll take disagreeing with a VAR on one penalty if it means ten offside goals get correctly chalked off, even if the decision goes against Everton. Because that's the fair and just outcome

That's what some are ignoring btw, some of these decisions will go against Everton

I don't doubt your commitment mate, but for every decision we get via VAR we'll get an equal amount against that, otherwise, we would have gotten away with. Swings and roundabouts.

Exactly and I'm fine with that

If we have an offside goal chalked off then fine, it was offside. Will I be annoyed? Of course I will, but that's the game. At least I'll know the right call was given and I'll get over it

If it's a contentious penalty then I might be annoyed too, but I would have been annoyed with it anyway. VAR hasn't changed anything there

What VAR does is correct the obvious mistakes, and that's 100% a good thing

It's worth a couple more minutes of stoppage time if it means the City goal gets ruled out and we end up going to Wembley
