He's not a world beater and I agree and I've never claimed that. He's a good player who if fully fit and in the right state of mind could contribute to this team. He'd also offer us something completely different to what we already have.
Moyes has a tendency to play his favourite players and probably always will. Osman was [Poor language removed] the season before last yet the likes of Davies and Van der Meyde who where ready to fill in where hardly played. He also likes to accommodate Phil Neville when it's quite obvious that his form was poor last season and that he isn’t one of our better players. No matter how Neville plays he will always be in the team.
Van der Meyde has never been fit at this club and he’s obviously rubbed Moyes the wrong way from day one. There are many reasons why Moyes wouldn’t have played him. His workrate was also another problem. Moyes never thought he worked hard enough for the team and was a liability away from home. Lots of reasons really.
I’ve seen Van der Meyde have some good games for Everton. The season before last when he came in against the likes of Newcastle, West Ham, Blackburn twice and Portsmouth he did a good job and gave us something little different and more positive. Every time he seemed to have a good game he was disrupted. He had an excellent game against West Ham and then was robbed and missed the next game, he had a good game against Blackburn, linked excellently with Fernandes, Cahill and Arteta yet got injured and missed the next game.
Van der Meyde does have the quality for this level. Technically he’s excellent and gives teams alot of width. I’ve got to admit I have had doubts whether he’s suited to English football but I’ve never had doubts about his quality. He’s a talented waster.[/quote]
I thnk we will agree to differ on this one mate, in those games i waasnt that impressed with him, two really bad ones stand out for me against Brum two seasons ago when they were relegated he was awfull, and a carling cup tie against Plymouth he was shocking, i have my doubhts, i hope your right and comes good because he wasnt a vialbe option for us when we have been short of players in the past. I think we may have seen his last appearence in an Everton first team shirt, i would never not get behind an Everton player so if he plays i will cheer him on, i just cant see it though!
The Peterborough game you’re talking about. I agree he was anonymous bar one or two good touches but he hadn't played in ages if remember correctly. Against Brum he was playing through pain if I remember correctly.
The season before last he had some good games I thought. Against West Ham he tore them to shreds for 65 minutes and he put in good performances against Blackburn (twice) and Newcastle. He had a quiet game against Reading if I remember correctly but was our best player against Portsmouth away from home.
We’ve never seen him given a run in the team though or with a full season under his belt so It’s very hard to judge. I saw flashes of what he could have been which tells me he did have the capabilities to make it here. A fully fit Andy Van der Meyde would have been fine in my opinion. I saw him at Ajax and Inter as well and I always thought he was a good player.
Style wise I’ve always had my doubts. He’s got no defensive qualities so he wouldn’t be much use in a 4-4-2. He’s more of a wing forward than a winger and is best used in the 4-3-3 formation. We’ve never actually played that system so we’ve never so him at his best or in his best suited position.
Anyway, agree to disagree. I suppose we’ll never know.
