Conspiracy theory alert: what if Brands and Usmanov planned to leak the story to one of Brand's Dutch media contacts in order to put the Everton link back in the spotlight to help entice top players without Usmanov having to come out and say he's planning to move to us? It would also help to remind potential buyers of his shares that they are now available without it among like he is desperate to sell up quickly (which could lower his bargaining power). Also he didn't want to sell to Kronke but what's to stop one of Kronke's lesser known acquaintances from buying the shares with the agreement they'll sell to Kronke for a small profit in a year's time? Hmmm - I need a better nights sleep.

I think something similar.
I think that Usmanov is already in charge. But can you imagine how much we’ll get charged for players if other clubs know this.
Prices would double for us. Or they’d rocket anyway.

It’s like me getting a taxi, I give him a fiver tip. If the driver knows I’m a millionaire I’d feel obliged to give him a tenner.
The defence rests its case my Lord.

brands mentions it casually in an interview and as mentioned panorama discussed in depth , as we know USM sponsor Finch Farm and there are the last big established connections between moshiri and Usmanov I wouldn’t be surprised if it was a fairly open secret .

I could be Wrong but I get the impression football, even global football, is quite a small world so I’ve He’s involved I’d expect people to know .

I think the fact that Usmanovs signature was on Brands signing on fee cheque was a bit of a giveaway

Great theory.

My theory though is that it’s well known what is happening (to the people that matter) and brands has been told what is going on and in this interview is just a slip of the tounge.

Either way.. there is too much smoke imo

Excuse me but what did I miss?

Is someone suggesting that Usmanov signed a cheque employing Marcel Brands?

Is there some physical evidence to back this up? Or is this just the usual nonsense?

If so, that is earth shattering, really.

Usual nonsense. for one it's illegal under premier league rules and the club would get a massive fine and points reduction.

Why not logical?

Because i beleive he and Moshiri act as one in terms of both their investments. They both invested in Arsenal, have had years of seeing that investment appreciate hugely in Arsenal and have a strong knowledge that investment in the PL is one likely to increase in value.

My own beleif is that they said to themselves instead of both of us holding a shared stake in one PL club, Moshiri transferred his stake to Usminov and increased their exposure to the PL gravy train by one owning 30% in Arsenal and the other 49% of Everton that will rise eventually to north of 70%.

Its an infinitely better investment and exposure to the PL gravy train if they are working collectively (i beleive they are), owning 30% of Arsenal (700mill) and 49% of Everton (200 mill) (rising to 70%+), then them splitting 30% of the ownership of Arsenal.

Usminov's Arsenals shares are worth (700 mill), Moshiri approx 200 mill and both are likely to rise, that is infinitely better investment and exposure to the PL market then splitting 30% of Aresnal between them. With both investments likely to rise.

These lads are serious investors and this is the game they play. Its infinitely better investment having exposure at two PL clubs then it is one. It is also far better business having exposure at Arsenal and Everton (where you already have a controlling influence), then just the two of them having exposure at Everton. Thats pretty much why i think you wont see Usminov publicly ever have a role at Everton.

It makes little or no sense to reduce exposure at Arsenal, especially as i suspect both are working in conjunction at Everton anyway.

I think at this stage of his life the profit motive is secondary to Usmanov
He has more than enough money
As someone else posted now he wants the ego trip , the power , the kudos and acknowledgement that he owns and controls a top PL side
He wants his legacy to be seen by all not just a name on Forbes rich list.
If someone says Jack Walker to you do think steel tycoon or do you say that’s the chap that made Blackburn rovers league champions
That what Usmanov wants
