Would be interesting to see how far the special relationship goes, if Russian did launch a strike against the UK and they countered with Trident just maybe the US might see the economic value of having a wait and see policy.

I think the USA would go for it as soon as one missile went up regardless of target. They would not take the risk.

The US were allegedly signing significant trade deals with the UK as soon as Brexit was completed but as yet haven't, which makes you wonder how deep the special relationship goes. Nuclear war has been averted for decades because of the threat of mutually assured destruction which was always on the assumption of an attack either by Russia on the US or visa versa. War is normally to gain land or the access to mineral wealth (or the rights to it) Would the US stand back to see which way the wind blows, having a third party mortally wound Russia without direct risk to themselves could have great benefits.

If the US was confident that the UK and Russia would be the only combatants then we'd be left hanging. But would France jump in too as they'd be affected and well I think it's rapidly escalating to full on mutually assured destruction time.

France don't have any real love for the Brits historically, post Brexit even less so and while Boris is doing the loudest sabre rattling insisting Ukraine continues to fight until Russia is kicked out of Crimea he's setting up the UK to get the first wave of missiles when Putin finally loses it. I'd imagine US think tanks are doing the maths as we write on this thread.

Honestly wouldn't rely on a country that won't even help you stop people trafficking. And until there are any calls by the US or Nato for a ceasefire and meaningful peace talks the threat is ever present. If you believe recent press reports Putin is dying of cancer so he has nothing to lose.
