Saker proved to be more on the money with Russian intent during the takeover of Crimea from my recall.

However he is a pro-Russian analyst. If he's talking about taking Odessa, then that's the mood music he's being paid to play. Guess what's next on Russia's list of places to takeover... it'll be no surprise of they go all out for Transnistra and take the coast.

This isn't ending soon I'm afraid.
US just signed off on $1.4Billion for Ukraine. There’s talk about sending HIMARS if that’s the case then they will be loaded with ATACMS and more importantly the Precision Strike Missile. With a range of 600Km you can say goodbye to the Ru Black Sea fleet and any ambition they had of taking Odessa.

This is state if the art stuff - we’ve been trying to get hold of the precision Strike Missile for the last 12 months.

I havnt a clue what much of that means.

But occasionally, your posts about this remind me of the narrative in a Jack Reacher novel when he is choosing what guns to use!

Lol. Sorry mate.

HIMARS is a high mobility - long range guided rocket launching system.

ATACMS is a surface-surface GPS guided missile with a range of about 300km

Precision strike missile is the latest GPS guided missile with a range of approx 600km

Both missiles have active jamming systems installed so they’re very difficult to target and destroy once launched.

Indeed it's got to have some deterrent threat to Russian ambitions. But I just don't see the Russian forces stopping at the Dneiper now no matter how costly it is to them.

Dont fancy a gig in the Russian navy any time soon.

They need Odessa for re-supply by sea and they need to capture it with a combined land and sea-based assault, otherwise their MSR is too large and exposed to attack by the Ukes.

Ukraine knows this hence the massive effort to attack Ru forces on Snake Island.

If they can keep the Black Sea fleet away from Odessa, then it’s safe from capture. Personally I can’t see Russia breaching the Dnipro.

Been saying it for a while myself.

He’s certainly been on heavy steroids for a while and his face seems to be folding in on itself.

He’s defo unwell.
I guess he got nothing to lose, and he wanted to go to history books as a restorer of Russian power on grand stage, especially after humiliation of the 90s?

But instead this war that was supposed to be easy, showed all the cracks in Russian military and internal corruption. They also fought (successfully) against Syrian insurgents and ISIL, and relative easy success against opponent armed with AK-47s and simple RPGs, probably fooled them in overstating their own strength.

As this war shows, there is a world of difference fighting lightly armed insurgents and near pear army with all the artillery, tanks, anti-air capabilities that comes with modern army.

I mean when was last time when (supposed) Great Power fought near pear army in classic full scale frontline war, WW2? Or maybe US against Chinese in Korean war in 1950s.

Off topic I know, but they’re not as good as they used to be ☹️!
