That's admitting you have no clue. If 40.000 are actually incapacited than almost 1/3d of the invasion army is defeated (155 k).

Nobody has a clue, nobody can verify anything until the dust settles.

I'm not denying the Russians made fools out of themselves but come on...

For a month long war, those figures would be atrocious - you’re talking worse than pretty much most conflicts bar some of the slaughters of WWI and II.

But as @FrenchDarrenBent rightly mentions, I’d take those figures with a dollop salt rather than a pinch. Their casualties are high - we know that - but that high?

Zelensky last week said 16,000 were killed. Some estimates from the ground suggest at least 20,000 Russian soldiers killed with another 20,000 plus injured.

This invasion by the Russians is an absolute disaster. The Russians are getting whacked in Eastern Ukraine with their army surrounded and bogged down.

Its only a matter of time the Russians will retreat out of Ukraine to avoid further embarrassment and presumably to avoid Ukraine taking a chunk out of Russia itself.

I hope the Ukrainians take back Crimea and I believe they will. The Russians started the war and the Ukranians will finish it by taking back Crimea.

Is it time to call his bluff? His conventional forces look poor. No way could he occupy Ukraine even now. He will continue to pummel civilian areas until the World gives him an ultimatum. When will that be?

Wouldn't surprise me, they will literally try/do anything to anyone who gets in their way, even someone like Abramovich. Although I have no doubt he could probably make a lot of trouble for Putin if he really wanted to.

I fear he wins if we do! At least in his/Russians minds he wins. The moment we get fully involved he can play the NATO anti-Russian card and who knows what happens then?

maybe a naive question here
but what's to stop the UN setting up a peace keeping mission made up of non NATO member forces to go in to Mariupol and evacuate the entire city.
Is it the fear that Putin will bomb the international peace keepers?

I reckon they're hiding there afraid not of nuclear war but possible consequences of well over 20,000 Russian troops killed so far, Russian army surrounded in many parts of Ukraine by the determined Ukrainians and facing a certain rout. As well as the very likelihood of the Ukrainian army marching onto Crimea and taking it back.

The Russian security establishment have destroyed Russia's security and by the end of the year I expect NATO troops will be stationed in East Ukraine and in Crimea.
