Moving back to military strategy, it appears Putin has a potential 'in' via the Black Sea and Odessa with the fleet he has amassed there.

That would be the southern entry point. The north would be handled with the access provided by Belarus, and centrally smash through Donetsk.
Kev mate, I don't think this sort of thing is for you. You were golden during the Benitez wars, but I'm sensing you need a new hobby horse on here.

An acquaintance of mine from university is a photographer who has been living and working in Ukraine for years now. Very talented guy.

Some very powerful photographs taken there.

How is refering to complicated historical questions in a debate about how to tackle/react to Putin in any way relevant? How is it not simplistic? It's a weak argument.
How can you justify/propose actions for our modern leaders referring to the Anschluss or Sudetenland? Two entirely different cases, both generally peaceful & without guns fired. That's what @ClausThomsen original post was about.
There are no doubt countless examples of past events where the particulars more closely mirror the current events in Ukraine but that's not the point I was making. I was merely questioning @Kev The Rat on his isolationist viewpoint based upon him not seeing any reason to be involved.

Affairs that some people view as not being of direct concern to their country can end up being of considerable direct concern in the long run. I'm not explicitly arguing for or against any actions regarding Ukraine but against the argument that no action is necessary because @Kev The Rat believes there to be no obvious British concerns in the conflict.

I haven't attempted to justify or propose any particular actions as I don't actually know much about it beyond the odd news story. What I would argue though is that if this causes the waves it clearly has then there likely are interests very relevant to Britain - the specifics of which I personally am utterly clueless about. And as such there is a reason for action. Again, action which I know little about.

The events of Anschluss may have been viewed as irrelevant to British interests by many who may have perceived a largely peaceful and unresisted handover following a referendum on the matter. Obviously it was a lot more complicated than that and a significant contributor to events with huge ramifications for the entire world that are still very significant geo-political and economic factors almost a century later. That's the "simplistic" point I was making. Events that may be perceived by some as irrelevant to one's country may actually be very, very relevant.

It's an extraordinarily long, and tedious, way of saying "There might be more to it than you know Kev." :D
