Zelensky came into office in 2019 on the campaign promise of trying to end the war with Russia, which obviously shows good (and likely naive) faith in trying to avoid all this murder/destruction.

But this is my point. He came into office promising to end the war and finds himself in a position where it’s worse than ever. First and foremost, Zelenskyy is not a politician. He most likely isn’t very adept when it comes to negotiating and understanding the stances of world powers etc which is partly why he hasn’t been able to keep his promise to the Ukrainian people. I’m not suggesting that Ukraine brought this on themselves by any stretch of the imagination, but I do believe that more could have been done on a diplomatic level to prevent an invasion on the scale were seeing - by Zelenskyy and other world leaders.

If this war is going to end it will involve some sort of negotiations most likely involving some of the terms which were off the table a matter of weeks ago.

I find it amazing that the Ukraine army, from what I've read, was pretty much in shambles about 8 years ago. And with lots of training, $$$, and other military aid, they are essentially bringing their A-game to what is/was ostensibly one of the top three super-power armies in the world. Is this a correct assessment?

Also helps if you have US and UK special forces and spy agencies giving advice...

What you are suggesting only makes sense in a world where Putin is honorable and to be trusted, and has not literally lied over and over again over the past 10 years breaking treaties and accords like candy.

If negotiations could only be made with those who are honourable and trusted, there would have been many more wars during our life times.

If NATO was categorically off the table with no western forces stationed in Ukraine, neutrality guaranteed and certain terms regarding Crimea agreed, would this be happening? It will be interesting to see what terms look like if any negotiation is agreed, and if this in fact could have been agreed before how many thousand have died. The west has a huge role to play in this with it’s legitimising of Putin and Russia’s corruption. I just think that short term destruction should have been a priority to stop with then a subsequent shift on how to deal with Russia explored. I’m just not convinced Zelenskyy has truly acted in the best interest of his people by not being open to diplomacy to begin with.

Yes mate, it would still happen. Putin wants a land corridor from Russia to Crimea and he wants the Donbass.

The other issue for Putin is NATO, however is own Intel would have shown that Ukraine would never have been admitted due to the border conflict in the Donbass, so using this as a pretext for invasion is basically bollox.

No, his real beef with NATO is the deployment of its ballistic missile defence system in Eastern Europe as this upsets the MAD apple cart. However invading Ukraine has backfired on him and we now see the US deploying Patriot systems in Poland and Slovakia. They will soon also deploy the Aegis ashore systems as well.

So Putins actions have only served to degrade his own position. Not very clever.

If this is accepted on Thursday this might be the beginning of a move toward ending hostilities.

Poland at a special NATO summit in Brussels scheduled for March 24 is to formally submit a proposal for a peace mission in Ukraine along with a detailed package of solutions - Deputy Minister of Defense Wojciech Skurkiewicz informed on Sunday, and Paweł Szrot, head of the President's Cabinet, assured that the proposal would be presented in Brussels together with the government by the President Andrzej Duda.

This is the aftermath of last week's visit to Kiev of the prime ministers of Poland, the Czech Republic and Slovenia, and Deputy Prime Minister Jarosław Kaczyński , during which the PiS president presented a proposal to establish a peace mission prepared by NATO and possibly other international organizations. It would be "armed" and take place on the territory of Ukraine.

Yes mate. They have been trained by the US and UK since 2015. All Ukrainian Army officers are trained at Sandhurst alongside British officers.

Their special forces are also extensively trained by UK/US special forces and have been for many years. They are well equipped and highly motivated and they are kicking Russia`s arse.

Indeed, it looks like a mobile electronic jammer. Could be used for a number of tasks. My guess is they use it to jam the Ukrainian UAV command and control net.
