Of course you know. Germany has been under the thumb of Russia since the moment Merkel was appointed. Every action, such as the recent closing of their nuclear power plants , has been geared to their reliance upon Russian energy. And now they forbid U.K. RAF planes flying over Germany and forbid the export licenses for kit from Lithuania…

Aren't you the guy who supports the party that takes in millions of pounds in funding from Russian sources?

So why did Germany forbid U.K. flying arms to Ukraine over German airspace ?….
But they never

But they never

Unfortunately the flight paths across Denmark and Poland on the way to Ukraine are a matter of fact. Whatever Political spin is put on this the RAF had to fly around Germany…..

Germany is going to be dependent on Russia. The former Warsaw pact countries in the EU have populations that support Russia. Most of Eastern Europe are politically pro putin. The EU can't really fracture on this issue. It can't play a role where it is one way or another because what will happen is member states will object and there could be Chaos. There is nothing the EU could do but sanction Russia if they attacked Ukraine.
Err, I don't think that's the case whatsoever.

Incidentally @peteblue , I believe you scoffed at Cameron's claim that an EU without the UK would be less militarily effective?

But it's perhaps also worth noting what the article says
How important is the EU to European defence?
A key weakness in Cameron’s argument is that security in western and central Europe, and parts of eastern Europe, is not, for the most part, within the remit of the EU. It is mainly a matter for the US-led transatlantic alliance that has existed since the end of the second world war, Nato.
Nato is a military alliance, with a HQ in Brussels, a central command and control structure, running a huge force of soldiers and equipment from more than 20 countries. They conduct major training exercises annually throughout the region. The EU has no army, no common defence policy and no common foreign policy.

If Russia was to mount an aggressive campaign in the Baltics or along the Polish border, it would be Nato troops that would be confronting them.

If the UK was to leave the EU, it would not make the slightest difference to its membership of NATO.

The EU and UK can't do anything to stop Russia,Putin can turn off the gas supplies at the push of a button.we had a chance to change that with fracking but once again we cut our nose off to spite our face.
Same reason they sat back and did nothing when Russia took Crimea, all hot air from NATO!

Frack off m8, we'd be better off burning one another's houses to keep warm.

Yes we can, we can really start sanctioning their monies that is rinsed and cleaned in the City of London, If you walk down Kensington high street might as well be on a hip street in Moscow for all the native Russian being spoke.

but they wont because the banks are making ridiculous amounts facilitating it all,
they might threaten it or fine them a few mil in pocket change but in the end nothing will happen.

Exactly... All about short term financial gains for greedy types of the individual mind.

Would need a proper legislation and proper policy at home to manage Russia messing about with gas supplies, would be some years to implement and us plebs to be ready by switching off the even more expensive gas... However, Russia would see the intent. And Fracking is just a joke, the Dr Frankenstein of fossil fuel burning. Certainly renewable and efficiency...

I really do hope that this is all sabre rattling between the Russians and the west. I doubt anyone in Ukraine deserves to have this hanging over them.

Ukraine should be a thriving link between Russia and the countries west of it. Instead it's got one of the lowest gdps per capita due to corruption. It's frankly insane and a disgrace to see another by proxy battleground beyond 2 sides that should be working together.
