Would genuinely love to, we have a bit of space, but will have to move out for a short period in the next year and just cannot get around it.

I think there will be plenty of offers so I wouldn't worry.

I have a two year old so not sure on the risks involved.

Might read about it and see how it goes and if it gets desperate then maybe.

Not really, that is how wars between "strong" and "weak" forces usually go - the weak force has the advantage of timing and surprise and the strong has advantage of firepower (especially volumes of firepower).

The Ukrainians only have miitary targets to go for. The Russians are tying to break the will of the Ukranian people so attack civil targets to inflict psychological as well as physical damage. It's what they have done elsewhere in Chechnya etc.
