You're probably right there but that's a whole different kettle of fish! I think the Rep party would run that Dos Santos guy anyway, he seems popular with their ones and not as divisive as Trump.
I mean the prices of everything rising could hurt Bidens chances of re-election as the economy is everything when it comes to staying in power and its not great atm but 2 years from now could be a different story hopefully.

They do however have elections for the house coming up in Nov. Now I'm not sure on the ins and outs of USA politics, maybe one of our American friends can correct me but if Republicans won the house and if it was Republican perogative to lift the sanctions I think maybe they could make it very difficult for Biden but again I'm not 100% on that. Imo the sanctions stay anyway as its more than just USA imposing them. I think if anyone was to break first it would be one of the countries that maybe rely on Russia heavily for gas etc not USA.
I don’t think so. Ultimately, the bills related to Russia sanctions passed with overwhelming support (over 400 votes for and less than 20 against, I believe). Republicans will most likely take back the House in November but would still fall far short of a veto-proof majority. There would need to be some form of bipartisan consensus.

Thanks mate like I say I'm not really clued up too much on USA political systems so was just a passing thought. Imo a bulk of the sanctions stay even if Putin left Ukraine tomorrow.

No problem. I live just outside of DC and from this POV I can’t see a formidable bloc of reps supporting a revoking of sanctions. It would be tantamount to political suicide for the foreseeable future imo

That’s pathetic policing. I didn’t think police even got involved in squatting issues (which this basically is). It’s a civil matter isn’t it? Are you telling me it’s one rule for some, one rule for others? I’m shocked, shocked I tells ya.
My guess would be that they'll try to justify it on terrorism grounds. Preventing the possibility of a terror attack on the property, yada yada yada.
I personally don't think the sanctions ever come off now. Maybe some private businesses will ease theirs and go back to trade in Russia but I think trade deals between countries etc and other things the govt have power over won't come back to Russia. I think the Russia /West cooperation is effectively over at least while Putins in charge, maybe longer.

He'll look to China /India etc for trade imo. Already building a gas pipe to China too I believe.
I think that some of them are likely to stay. Most likely, those would be the personal ones and perhaps the fuel ones. Putin can't be tried by the ICC since Russia is not a signatory (neither are the US and China), so that's probably how that score gets settled.

Isolating Putin isn't a good idea for a variety of reasons, and neither is full economic reintegration. Whether or not a consensus on the pullback of sanctions occurs after some of the food and fuel price increases start to really bite is an open question. I wouldn't say that it's out of the question for, say, the Republicans to change their tune after November, then try to credit claim.

Because you were having a pop at me like a child for having a slightly different view on events yet you didn't have the nads to tag me. Like I say just grow up and be an adult. You dont have to agree with my take on the situation that's fine, others do in here and others don't but they do so like adults and vice versa.

If you want an echo chamber put me on ignore its that simple mate. However if you want to put childish insults and veiled digs aside and discuss the Ukraine situation then by all means let's do that. We're all friends and Blues in here
I was mostly having a pop at Death, whom I simultaneously like and will also call out as a bellend when he is acting like one (he is welcome to do the same to me). Me not tagging you is because I don't tend to use a lot of the forum digital conveniences that are available here: 1) I rarely tag people, 2) I don't put people on ignore, and 3) I don't ever give people the middle finger. It has nothing to do with your laughably childish macho proclamations ("...didn't have the nads...").

But since we are talking about your take on the situation, exactly what is your point when you write, "Ghost of Ukraine and Snake Island for example were BS. As I'm sure Russia are pumping out their own version of events." And then write to Bruce Wayne, "Bit naive to think our side don't play the game too like." Do you think you are making an insightful claim about rarefied knowledge?...that both sides in war can use propaganda?

But I'm curious, what does the fact that Ghost of Ukraine and Snake Island mean to you in the face of Putin's invasion? Do you think Zelenski is gonna be like "...well, you caught us! we've disseminated a highly doctored rumor...we'll just lay down our arms now..." What is gained by you pointing this out three times in this thread in light of Putin's massacre? Are you having trouble seeing right and wrong in this conflict?

Goebbels: We have built hospitals and provided vocational training to Jews
Britain: Carrots help us see German pilots during night time air-raids
Edgy-internet guy: Both sides are using propaganda.
