Zelenskyy's not sitting though - he has addressed the people and given the nearly-the-same Churchill speech?

It won't stop Russia because, well, it's Russia, but hopefully open the eyes of the Ukrainian allies that they're not simply rolling over.

And that is a very principled thing to do but unless you are pushing the enemy back, regaining fallen cities and towns, then you aren't winning the war and worse you are inflicting harm on the people you are supposed to represent and protect.

If Putin comes out and says his goal is complete subjugation of Ukraine and their people, then a fight to the bitter end might be justified. If handing over three regions that haven't been in Ukraine's hands for 8 years will bring an end to this then absolutely he should take that deal.

Get the Russians out, they can re-arm, repair and let's see what the sanctions do to Putin and his cronies.

I believe Putin would not stop with three regions in Ukraine. Lithuania, Estonia, Latvia, Poland are at risk. I just hope the economic impact brings him down before long.

Why do you believe Russia will take the 3 regions and go "you know what, fair enough, bye"?

If that was the case they'd be focusing most, if not all, the power on Donbas, etc., not the capital, and the statement won't be to "liberate Kiev from Nazis", as that has also switched.

It will also send a brilliant message to the other dictators leaders of questionable ethics that they can just do whatever.

What does that say to Putin, Xi and the other dictators around the world though?

I feel that we are now in a position that Putin has to be beaten, assuming this is so, it is a matter of how.

How can we defeat Putin? It's impossible. If Ukraine agree to certain terms and Putin doesn't adhere to the agreement that means China etc have to answer difficult questions.

Ukraine won't win a war on their own.

Ah yes, China - a government and leader who are always held to the highest standards regarding accountability.

They won't answer anything and continue to violate human rights, as they have.

As will Russia - surrendering won't change anything, just show them that if you throw enough people power at the problem - it will get better.

I can see what you're saying and the bombing is quite serious, however put yourself in this position and tell me - will you abandon everything you have and have worked for?

It isn't everything though, is it? It is a way out - a horrible way out, fraught with risks and which doesn't punish those who brought that murderous war to the land - but a way out nonetheless. Ukraine will still exist, with the same government and having shown the world what they have stood up to (and what the enemy was willing to do).

He said a few days ago that what he wanted for his country was peace, not to be some sort of 300. That deal is peace.

He is not going to roll in to heavily armed NATO countries.

To get what you want sometimes you take more to compromise somewhere in between. Russia have paid the ultimate price that a country who has nuclear weapons could pay. Sadly if this was a country that didn't have them we would have steamrollered them into submission - turning them into North Korea is the next best thing and a good example to China of what could happen.

I don't know if that deal is on the table, it was said by Putin but the devil is in the detail. All I'm saying is if it is, they should definitely take it.

This piece comes to that conclusion

I really don't think that is the lesson they will take away from this - I'd bet it will be that it is much easier to control / influence countries from a distance using puppets than it is to go in and take things.
