There's no simple way out of this is there?

What's everyone's opinion as to where we'll be in 12 months time?

For me there will be little or no movement. Russia will still control the Crimea, larges swathes of the East of the country and various pockets in between.

Kiev will remain "unconquered" but essentially be a shell of a city with more rubble and constant firefights. The Ukrainian government will be on the run.

There will have been a couple of offensive moves from Russia but nothing conclusive.

Diplomatic attempts all fail as Russia is only demanding the entire country and nothing else and that's not something NATO and the West can live with..

Bloody depressing..anyone able to cheer me up?

Well, it was here that I originally saw the issue that pushed me over the edge into actually saying something, and now the English thing has sorta got out of hand. I'm sure nobody intends any disrespect to the victims of the war, or contributors on here who are very upset at what's going on.

Genuine question: what's your opinion on Al Jazeera? I personally feel that it doesn't harbour the same bias that BBC, C4, CNN or sky do.

I've seen one or two reports. It's hard to find still. I gather its obviously sympathises with Ukraine and stuff no problem there of course. I haven't got that theybare beating you over the head but I haven't seen much from them of I'm honest.

Seeing all the brexiteers saying that there is no space for Ukrainian refugees makes me feel sick. This corrupt Tory government and their racist followers have a lot to answer to.

The least we can do is allow any Ukranian into the UK. It's not difficult.

Wasn't it, in very recent history, members of the E U who were erecting fences and sticking military forces to protect those fences against the largely brown and black immigrants?

I'm not sure many of the so called liberal democracies can take pride in their response to movements of people.

Having said that, the Ukrainians should be O K. Most of them are white n good Christian folk.

Your lot are currently debating whether it's possible to sink dingies in the channel which says it all. We already treat asylum seekers badly without requiring additional measures.

The EU have taken a massive number of migrants over the past few years from Syria and other nations. Our numbers are an embarrassment in comparison.

I think Russia will "win" many battles but they cannot prevail in the war, and have no chance of either conquering, or maintaining political control of the whole of Ukraine, unless extreme measures are taken.

Unless Putin is removed, and even then I don't see a suddenly pliant Russia, they have to and will make concessions.

The question is how Russia can be given a way out to end the conflict but feel that something has been secured on their side, to justify an end to hostilities.

I thought initially that Putin would seek to establish a bridge between Crimea and the DNR/LNR, hence the current concentration there, and maintenance of that may be their bottom line as time drags on. Currently I cannot see that as being acceptable to US/EU/NATO so its very difficult to see how things will pan out.

Well you're suggesting this government are doing a reasonable job. No doubt there are some racist governments in eastern Europe but the majority are taking higher percentages of refugees than our nation.

We should be willing to take at least 500,000 Ukrainian refugees. There is plenty of space in the UK, anyone who suggests otherwise is incorrect.

Well you're suggesting this government are doing a reasonable job. No doubt there are some racist governments in eastern Europe but the majority are taking higher percentages of refugees than our nation.

We should be willing to take at least 500,000 Ukrainian refugees. There is plenty of space in the UK, anyone who suggests otherwise is incorrect.

No I'm not suggesting anything of the kind. And not one word of my original post even hints at that.

I believe our borders should be open with as little bureaucratic fuss as possible to those suffering from war or persecution.

What I found surprising was the attempt to portray any of this as a "Brexiteer" outrage given the naked racism of a number of E U regimes (oh, and let's throw Switzerland in to that mix).

My lot are those who identify as wanting to bury the fear of the other - without regard or the need for political labels.
