How bizarre is it that in this “Russian made” situation they actually even have a veto on the council?
Even more bizarre that after the war crimes that Putin is committing on innocent civilians that Russia still has seat on the council. Russia needs to be expelled and that veto power removed for good. It is a shame that the UN hasn’t proceeded to do such action against this tyrant.

Council has existed for decades, therefore predates this issue.

Not saying that means it ISN'T bang out of order - personally I think Russia is deliberately taking advantage of the processes in the UN - but it's not that the UN is just choosing not to do anything.
Oh I agree, but the fact that it predates all this doesn’t mean that they shouldn’t have a fall back position to cover this very eventuality! Also agree that Putin is using the “system” to his own advantage, but his action should effectively null and void any prior agreement irrespective of that agreement, especially when the action is so blatantly wrong!

Putin said one thing, but then did the opposite?

I for one am surprised. Shocked, even.
Indeed, not an excuse for Russian aggression in invading Ukraine, however we have had back to back coverage how every civilian of Ukraine can have a gun to repel Russian invaders. No military campaign is going allow free movement of the enemy civilians under these circumstances. Thought it very naive to make such statements, and us in the West cheering it as if we had scored a goal.

I'd be shocked if he actually has been executed.

I know they're in a period of martial law and any treason or dissent will need dealing with, but they can't alienate the west and slip into Putin's ways.

A fair trial and execution of a person committing treason in a time of war I could understand; a drumhead trial and summary execution there and then, nah.
Exactly. This is what the Russians are saying the Ukrainians are like. Putting him in a jail and explaining why paints the Ukrainian side in a good light.

From Wikipedia: As of February 2022, Russia/USSR has used its veto 120 times, the US 82 times, the UK 29 times, France 16 times, and China 17 times.

Be interesting how many of those vetoes from all of those countries were to keep allowing the vetoing countries to keep on carrying on with some atrocity.

You miss the point. If he's tried to flee or use a weapon against those arresting him, well to use that slightly tedious saying - it is what it is.

If they have been able to arrest him and then summary executed him, which the term in the OP would suggest, it's very different. Drumhead trials aren't right!

The article stated that they had tried to detain him. That points to him resisting.
