It’s been upgraded with engines and electronics packages so as a short range interceptor and dog fighter it’s is still a very good plane in a relatively small battle space.

Especially the F16 viper which only a small handful of countries possess

By post? US and UK special forces are bound to already be there, perhaps under the guise of private military contractors.

Not their variants. They only got them in the early 2000s and were the latest model then (Cs or Ds). They're newer than their SU-17s and MIG-22s.

Honestly I’d be amazed and appalled if we had any boots on the ground over there; they’d be completely unsupported and when some got captured / killed there would be such a risk of a war between us and them. I mean what would we be asking them to do?
