Mad that. I’ve never sat in a cockpit before but am guessing they are different and have different controls. Can pilots just rock up to any jet and be able to fly them in battle?

I’ve drove two different class of submarines before and they where both very different. I couldn’t just be given the helm of a French boat and be asked to drive it. Different breed fighter pilots to be fair so maybe they can lol

Ukraine use F16s, no? That means The Netherlands, Belgium, Italy and Spain (?) at least can send them equipment.

But then you have to get it there and get the pilots back to their country of origin. Which I reckon means there may be a few pilots making some serious coin the next few weeks.

No, the Ukrainian AF are using all ex-Soviet technology for conventional aircraft

I very, very much doubt this. If they were to attack a Russian jet or convoy, perhaps even in self-defence, it could be casus belli for either side.

That would be a huge risk - one too far at the moment - unless they really are prepared to go into combat. Is it worth the escalation due to an act of aggression?

What they are likely to be doing elsewhere is probing close to Russian air space to keep air assets pinned down and gaining intel from communication etc.

It could even go as far as Suppression of Enemy Air Defenses (SEAD) missions, but @Mutzo Nutzo will likely know more about all that jazz.

Aye, it was more a throwaway remark.

Their BUKs have been getting targeted as they're prized assets, and as they don't have air superiority yet so it may be working.

Again, @Mutzo Nutzo any idea if they're using their longer-range SAMs like the Growler and Grumble?

Aye they have deployed their more stategic (long range) AD systems near their staging areas / airfields and to protect their Iskander ballistic missile launchers.

So they have a mixture of S300 (SA-10 grumble) and S400 (SA-21 growler).

Tactically (mobile) they have shorter range systems such as the BUK’s (SA-17 Grizzly and SA-27 Gollum) as well as Tunguska’s (SA-18 Grison).
