Current Affairs Ukraine

What AA defense needs knocking out to allow Ukraine the chance at maintaining Ukraine airspace in full? Further, what air force capacity do russia have to address this possibility?
At what point is it likely belarus gets a rap on the knuckles also?
Soz but can’t answer your questions. Ukraine is the most hostile, electronically congested battle space there’s ever been. IMO no side can obtain air superiority let alone air supremacy.

Currently Ukraine is attempting to shape the battlefield for the introduction of the F-16’s/ Mirage 2000’s /Saab A340’s that’s why you hear lots of chatter about attacks on RuAF AD sites and assets, they are attempting to degrade their capabilities and limit their visibility/reach. How successful this tactic is remains to be seen.

As for Belarus - they’re not seen as a real threat by NATO and therefore treated accordingly.

Yeah, maybe. But the shift to the right in Europe and soon Trump will be in office, I would expect, that'll focus minds on a solution.

Obviously each side aren't getting what they want. There's no zero sum game here.

IMO Russia and Ukraine will eventually agree to buffer zones between the declared 'independent' Russian authorities in Luhansk and Donetsk oblasts and the rest of Ukraine. But they won't get the Ukraine's to stop applying for NATO or the EU. The Ukrainians will get peace and their POWs back and a Marshall Plan type stimulus from the West.
The shift to the right will likely cause problems for the support to Ukraine. No idea how or when that causes problems or even if it will. I see them as wild horses if they get any level of power and are unpredictable.

I wouldn't bet against or for Trump -who knows if he will get back into the White House. God help us all if he gets in, and ditto for Biden. Would Trump ditch the Ukrainians? Would he exit NATO? Depends on what side of the bed he gets. If Biden wins, I'd give this war another 4 years.

IMO, as long as this goes on, the closer Ukraine is to collapse. If Russia gets West of the Dneiper then it might go a bit @kev and be a complete capitulation of Ukraine if their defensive lines aren't prepared. Getting across the Dneiper will however be a bloodbath for whoever tries to cross it. It might well form a natural boundary if both sides have to go to the negotiating table.

As for the EU and NATO, and potential membership. As long as Ukraine insists on NATO, this war won't stop. About the EU, maybe that will ok for Moscow to accept in a potential deal. I don't trust Russia to make any concessions to what they have taken already so Ukraine won't entertain any deal until they are facing complete defeat at which point Russia might well not care to deal.

Any return to non-pariah status for Russia will certainly (in my mind at least) involve having to fund rebuilding of Ukrainian infrastructure and western and Chinese companies profiting from some juicy Russian financing.

I think I mentioned before that a lady from Ukraine joined my team last year. She still has her very elderly mother over there in the east and a daughter further west who didn't want to join her and her other daughter in Barcelona.

She is in a running club with other Ukrainians either here as expats generally or because of the war and they set up a protest in the centre on Saturday specifically aimed at this topic in particular and the prisoners of war. I think she mentioned it was ion the news here. She was upset mainly that these kind of things and the people affected can get lost in the bigger picture of the war and whatever peace might come from this. They want to keep awareness up of what is happening.

I would say from my first conversation on this with her before xmas when she joined to this one, there's now some understanding they will lose land at the end of this. I'd like to ask more of what her opinion is though, on lots of aspects of all this but it doesn't feel right getting into it unless it's brought up.

Think there's a few waiting for one iota of criticism of the russian decision to invade and shell civilian targets then stone faced deny what they've done on the international political circuit.

Probably rubs a few up the wrong way. The cryarsing about respect and meme's is possibly a factor in how much of that flack comes their way thereafter.

Sorry I didn't reply to this. I didn't fully get the first part? What is the poster doing that you don't think they should?

I don't think they are necessarily cryarsing about memes and I don't see them asking for respect, but I do see they end up responding to the memes and potato posts with their own tiresome posts having a go and it goes round in circles. Lately a lot more than usual which again, IMO derails a thread on a pretty serious subject.

My point was I can understand this happening with an obvious troll like the window cleaner guy whoever that was, and I generally wish people didn't feed a troll (altho in the Trump thread lately some great and informative stuff has been written in attempts to debate with people who actually have no interest in engaging) but here at least from reading the thread day to day I don't see the same level of "deserving" target

On your other post about whataboutery, I think whatever conflict happens now, If the west are involved in some way the whataboutery is always going to be part of the conversation as trust of governments in the west and their motives and actions is very low. Or at least I would see it that way. Somebody more knowledgeable on this might have an opinion either way. However if this conflict happend in the 90s I probably would have had an opinion closer to West/Ukraine good - Russia bad without much thought beyond that. Nowadays I completely understand if there are plenty of people who stop and go okay, but what are all the players involved actually doing and why. Early in the thread I remember some poster, could have been @davids or another, saying they have basically invented a reason to invade much like what happened in Iraq. I can't knock anybody being wound up by the media and anybody in the west taking a line of Putin bad/West good, even if in a thread like this I'd say their point could be made better sometimes. I think it may have been @davids tbh and that to me at least shows a stance that this invasion was not at all justified and shouldn't have happened. They have also called out Putin imo even if I'm aware people mistrust the balance in their stance as it comes out in their posts

I think somewhere way back in the thread the points stopped being discussed and people have gotten their backs up and it's settled into this repetitive stuff and honestly if they are a troll or a putinbot as some suggest, there is plenty in this forum who are more than capable of pushing back what they don't agree with and that's this forum at it's best

(On a totally selfish point as somebody who reads the threads mainly and does not post much, it can be frustrating when interesting discussions start but then are cut down before they can evolve by people sniping at each other)

FFS at least tag the correct poster mate. :red:

I try to avoid the 'current affairs' forum like the plague and wondered why the Hell I was being tagged in here. 😂😂

Taking the russian side completely. When called out for it, gets all defensive and starts cryarsing and the whataboutery. open season at that point. Appreciate it isn't very constructive, but well, it doesnt seem the antagonist is especially concerned about constructive anything besides Ukraine laying down all arms and ceasing to exist. Bishing about childish anything tends to invite more of the same, same goes with gifs and what not. There's plenty of kkk forums and trump maga forums to go and engage in this mind rot on, perhaps a meeting of majestic intellects there would be more their cup of coffee.

TLDR, chat crud, get ripped for it.

Try a dictionary, look up the difference between cease-fire and surrender. If you can't,get a responsible adult to try to explain it to you in small words you might understand.
