Zelensky about to lower the age of conscription from 27 to 25 breaking the promise made that he wouldn't.

There's loads of those younger men who have fled though and won't return. Possible extradition of them from neighbouring countries won't go down well.

Conscription in the UK and the US was 18; in many countries around the world it's somewhere between eighteen and twenty-one.

So, in the grand scheme of things, twenty-five ain't too bad. It's never going to be an overly popular policy, but if that's what is required.

Putin, comdemning hordes of Russians to death whilst he and the Russian mob sit at home sipping fine wine and eating caviar. The fiend is sending injured Russians back to the front without being treated and their families being compensated with onions and potatoes - all because he wants control over Ukraines resources and distribution networks so he can buy more yachts and football teams.

What if the reason he was told to fight was for freedom? I am 58, so unlikely I would ever be called up mind.

He didn’t believe that a truly free country forced conscientious objectors to fight.

I respect that view. I’ll fight for my loved ones if somebody is coming through my front door. I’ll get them out of harm’s way in all other circumstances. I certainly wouldn’t by dying - or having my son die - for some politician with a “cause”.

CO's is a different issue. Nobody should be forced to fight, CO,s didnt, but in WW2 many who would not take up arms adhered themselves to the red cross/catering/transport etc etc part of the effort.

Part of the “effort” is fine. Conscripting people against their will to be thrown into the meat grinder, not so much.

I suppose it depends on who you ask. What do the 20 million dead think?

As I said, part of the “effort” is fine. Sometimes there is no choice but to fight. But when there is, I wouldn’t be forcing people to.
