I said a while back that the Ukraine war would be seized on by the Republicans and dragged into the US election and that's what's happening.

This is an issue the GOP feel they can batter the Democrats with, so you'd have to say the chances of an aid package - a significant one - being agreed are practically zero.

Nearly half of American voters think the US is spending too much on aid for Ukraine, according to a poll that underscores the fragility of domestic support just as Volodymyr Zelenskyy prepares to visit Washington to lobby for more funding.

The latest FT-Michigan Ross poll found that 48 per cent believed the US was spending “too much” in military and financial aid to bolster Kyiv’s war effort against Russia, compared with 27 per cent who said Washington was spending the “right amount” and 11 per cent who said the US was not spending enough.

Opposition was particularly pronounced among Republicans, with 65 per cent saying the US was spending too much in Ukraine, compared with roughly half — 52 per cent — of independents and just a third — 32 per cent — of Democrats.

Interesting piece from the Financial Times about the Kyiv regime's continued selling of the war as 'all things are going according to plan'. It's not cutting through anymore and now counter-productive.

Iryna Zolotar, adviser and head of communications for Ukraine’s former defence minister Oleksii Reznikov, said the optimism strategy initially worked, helping Ukrainians believe in themselves and their ability to resist the invasion.

But it had now created a confusing narrative where “expectations are overstated and do not correspond to the real state of affairs”, Zolotar said. Media articles describing things as “not as good” as the official line were viewed as false, she said. Instead, the government needed to demonstrate “balanced realism”.

“In order for society not to build castles in the air, and to take off its rose-tinted glasses . . . it is necessary to stop being afraid to speak the truth,” she said. “That victory will come with difficulty, that it is a marathon and is long and exhausting.”

Zolotar said the current strategy had left audiences in the west asking why they should contribute their taxpayers’ money if Ukraine was always “about to win”.
