He`s got more lives than @Foreveronregisters92 has on here.

President Zelenskyy, speaking at the Crimean Platform Summit:

the Russian fleet is no longer able to operate in the western part of the Black Sea. Moreover, there is now no security base and reliable logistical route in Crimea for the Russians.

"We have not achieved full fire control over Crimea and nearby waters yet, but it will happen, it is a matter of time", - Volodymyr Zelenskyy

Hard to imagine being Russian cannon fodder. Imagine knowing that you do not matter and that the Russian top brass would happily sacrifice your life and that of thousands of your comrades for nothing. There will very a reckoning to this in Russia once the reality sets in.

What's the significance of this Russian victory?

What does it allow them to now do / avoid the Ukrainians from doing to them?
It's a victory. That's the significance. Just to set the winter freeze up. Russian land gains have been greater than their losses since the Ukrainian counteroffensive. The twittering hordes will know how the momentum was.

It's getting colder. Both sides will recoup. If the middle east deteriorates, then Ukrainian replenishment might not be as they expected. By the end if winter, the US will be treating Ukraine and Israel as political footballs. Ukraine would be the loser if the US had to go all in for Israel.

Very dangerous times for Ukraine. Their destiny might not be in their hands anymore after winter kicks in.

Fair points. So political rather than strategic, I suppose.

The significance is whoever has that slag heap has the eyes over the city. Along with Russian forces moving up from the south west, Avdiivka will be surrounded like Mariupol.

There are 14 000 Ukraine troops in the city that will find it difficult to bring in munitions. The choice will be the Mariupol choice surrender or make a last stand. Of course, the Ukraines can attempt to attack from the north, but the Russian forces will now dig into a defensive position. And wait.

Meanwhile, the forces coming up will move quickly to form the encirclement, even if its the roads that can come under fire. This area is not well fortified, not like Avdiivka and will get artillery pounding, also a lot of troops have moved into Avdiivka.

Then it's a wait and see. Other areas will then become more prominent. The Ukraines are saying there are 400 000 Russian forces in Ukraine, slight exaggeration, and that's not counting those in the Belogrod area. Which concerns the Ukraine's because these may launch an attack on Kharkiv.

In other words, not know where the next attack comes mean reenforcements can only be moved once an attack has begun. Which leaves other areas exposed.

This could be put out to say, we can't go on against such superior forces. So negotiate.

Thanks for the analysis.

I suppose another outcome could be that Ukraine diverts troops trying to make a breakthrough in Zaporizhzhia oblast to meet this new threat?
