so its the Russians who are simple rubes now?
The Shock Doctrine in essence centres on the exploitation of national crises (disasters or upheavals) to establish controversial and questionable policies, while citizens are too distracted (emotionally and physically) to engage and develop an adequate response and resist effectively.

A lot of people betrayed the country no doubt about it - including its leadership.

As I’ve said it’s given rise to todays situation where the Russians can not - will not - trust western involvement in their affairs

Far less ‘organised crime’ in the ussr than existed in western capitalist states of the time.

‘Organised crime’ came about after the end of the ussr not during it,
I know. I said in response to @Charro that criminality existed not that it was on the scale of western society crime.

It certainly was - and then some - after the fall of the Soviet Union and the turbo-charged rush to grab state assets took hold.

The reds built the wall mate, they entrenched their views and brazenly tortured and murdered those they didn't like very much throughout East Germany.
WTF. You're dragging in issues of state crime against political enemies.

We're discussing something different here.

Have a like, but there's an innate sadness in there also. Good for you for getting off your backside and pursuing a passion though, and the bonus of being so far away from Everton. May your statue be made of bronze, and oversee the fall of empires long after you have laid down your quill...

He was quoting the woman….

so what is the difference between what happened in the 90s, and what the current Russian government is doing now?

Have you actually read the book or just the Wikipedia page’s first paragraph?
