What is your take on this @davek ?
Don’t come back with your “but he wears combat gear…” fluff
Probably something along the lines of...

In what way. Put yourself in his place, when Russia piled in toward Kyiv did he flee the country and take bags of cash with him, no, he stayed and led his country in defence. Even though he knew Russia would do everything they could to kill him, he steadied the population, visited the troops on the front line and did his best to work with politicians across the West to help his country win. Yes, he can sometimes push a bit harder than some folk would like, but to the West there is no pain, for him and Ukraine it’s life or death and he’s doing his best to keep his troops as well supplied as possible and to keep this War in the public consciousness…..
He was the President!! You think he should get plaudits for not fleeing!!!

Lol.

All that other stuff you describe is just what war time leaders do. There's an argument to make that the Russians would never target Zelensky as killing him would make things ten times more difficult for them. Zelensky is safe as houses, unlike the kids he's having kidnapped and thrown onto the front line.

He’s done no kidnapping, the Ukrainians are fighting for their country to remain independent . The only kidnapping that has been done is by Russia and you know this. Russia has even released its prison population of murderers and rapists to join the rest of its murderers and rapists in the army. I appreciate you’ve taken against Zelensky for whatever reason, but what would you have done differently to him ?……

folded quicker than superman on laundry day. ?

We're yet to know how accurate this is, if it is at all, but it would be sensible to attack the HQ at that time if they knew a meeting was to take place.

But it does raise questions, how would they know if such a meeting was taking place at that time? Also, why was it not in a secure facility (bunker etc.)?

It would be another major lapse in Russia's operating procedures.

They were in a command bunker, beneath the HQ building. No defence from storm shadows though.

As for the intel….Hmmm let me think 🤔

Male Ukrainian nationals of conscription age are allowed to cross the border only if they are financially supporting three or more children under the age of 18, are single fathers of children under 18, or have children or are guardians of children with disabilities.

In many cities, Telegram channels offer people keen to avoid the draft information on where conscription officers have been spotted that day; several videos have gone viral of officers bundling men into vans. Many business owners report men unwilling to come to work, scared they could be conscripted if they leave the house.

This is a prime example of what I was saying before. There'll always be those who will attempt to 'dodge the draft' (not be conscripted) - it ain't new.

It happened in US, France, Germany, UK, Japan... the list goes on... during Vietnam, WWII, WWI ... the list goes on... but the measure is how prolific it is.

Personally, you can tell a lot about the nature and causes of a conflict by measuring the peoples' response, which here is the willingness to absorb the death toll.

While there will be those who do not want to fight and will attempt to evade conscriptions, there are what appears many more who are not acting as so.

Overall, the population as a whole has appeared to 'get on with it', with relatively little protests or complaints. This is soldiers, workers, mothers, children et al.

The UK had strict measures in place in '14 and '39 to stop men fleeing doing their duty, including prison and up to firing squads, so was the issue endemic there?

No, it was merely a measure put in place to ensure the size of the army was suitable and to prevent the minority, rather than the majority, fleeing.
