While not talking about the European Union here, we've always been quite separate from other countries in many ways due to the English Channel.

They're much closer to Russia and each other than we are both geographically but also socially and politically. Add Brexit into the mix, and hey presto.

Really, we're surprised they're looking after their own collective interests?

Russia, China agree 30-year gas deal via new pipeline, to settle in euros

Russia has agreed a 30-year contract to supply gas to China via a new pipeline and will settle the new gas sales in euros, bolstering an energy alliance with Beijing amid Moscow's strained ties with the West over Ukraine and other issues.

It's also part of a long ongoing attempt to move away from trading oil and gas in dollars which coincidentally started just about the time relations with Russia started going south.
