That was the death knell for GadaffiIt's also part of a long ongoing attempt to move away from trading oil and gas in dollars which coincidentally started just about the time relations with Russia started going south.

Putin must be loving this. He’s got all the leaders of the west scurrying around and multitudes of politicians rushing to Moscow to talk to him and Lavrov.….
…and we have Liz truss ?Putin must be loving this. He’s got all the leaders of the west scurrying around and multitudes of politicians rushing to Moscow to talk to him and Lavrov.….
I am sure he is Pete, but when dictators delight in having their ego stroked rather than carrying out sensible actions then that’s usually when the start to lose power.
Putin is the one in the bind here; he’s created the Ukrainian situation and marched his men up to the top of the hill. Now he’s got to try and get back down with dignity, and without creating an even worse problem for himself.
Good god it gets worse.
During her visit to Moscow - Lavrov asked Liz Truss, "Do you recognize Russia's sovereignty over Rostov and Voronezh oblasts?" Truss said the UK would "never" do so.
The British amabassador then had to remind her that both Rostov and Voronezh are in fact located in Russia and not Ukraine!

I think Lavrov was trying to totally discredit her, so he threw in a trick question to trip her up and good old Liz fell hook, line and sinker for it.I have never heard of either, but by asking the question, unless it was a trick question, surely there is some international doubt about it? Otherwise, why ask it?
This is disqualifying in a foreign minister/SecState. It reveals a lack of preparation. If it's a military issue, you have to know the map. If it's an economic issue, you have to know what's at stake. Period.Good god it gets worse.

Indeed, I suspect a large proportion of Russian foreign affairs is designed to make the west look daft. Sadly, the Tories make it pretty easy for them.I think Lavrov was trying to totally discredit her, so he threw in a trick question to trip her up and good old Liz fell hook, line and sinker for it.
