I think you have to knock the idea of a peace deal on the head Dave. Nice idea but the reason the polarization has occurred is because the west are simply doubling down on the situation.

Europeans can freeze, Europeans can starve, and the ruling classes will be just fine. Americans can be buggered by inflation, but the 1% won’t care.
Neednt t have happened if it weren’t for your guy
I am cheering on nothing. You are cheering on the deaths of thousands and thousands of Ukros for, by your own admission, almost no gains in a year.

You are claiming the withdrawal from Kiev as a gain in your 50% - which was Russia's decision, there was no 'pressure' militarily from the Ukros remember, fair enough but that's over 18 months ago now.
Neednt have happened if not your your blood thirsty crush

Dave it won’t change a thing. Russia is at a point of no return. It will only get worse until they get bored with it. Your friend Kev only knows what he is being spoon-fed.
Let’s see how the Elite Paratroopers do. If they change the tide then advantage Putin but he will be stretched in a foreign land open to domestic attack.
Let’s see how the lines are drawn before the rainy season. If Tokmak falls Ukraine gets an important win and puts Russia on their heels.
We're weeks away from that happening. Probably a fortnight or so. There's virtually no chance of Tomak being reached.

Overall though, the Ukrainian people face another autumn and winter of power cuts and missile pounding and life is bleak for them...and so many have got and will be getting terrible news from the frontline about the loss of their men.

As I said, all things change. Nato want this to go on and on. The blood curdling Stoltenberg stated yesterday this will go on for years. That suits him, but does it suit Ukrainians. There's already loss of politcal support for Zelensky there and that will continue to haemorrhage. The American appetite for this is dwindling. But the Russians, as you say, are all in on this so wont be willingly leaving Ukraine anytime soon.

Something has to give over the winter.

this is the bit I cannot fathom. Why would they willingly sacrifice themselves at the altar of mammon in this manner. they are gaining so little from this exercise, and losing so much.

In other words: Ukraine and its allies, including the U.S., may have set their expectations for the counteroffensive too high. Ukraine is fighting one of the world’s strongest militaries. If Ukraine could succeed in forcing Russia to retreat in a significant way, it was always more likely to take years than months.

The next election in Ukraine is scheduled for March next year. What are the chances it's cancelled High I would think.

There's no way I'd be backing a man who's implicated in corruption and conducting a war - that's at best stalled - with the loss of 70,000 soldiers and goodness knows how many civilians.

For the sake of saving more lives this has to end in the coming months.

Nibbling away along that front line cant be the strategy for Ukraine. It's too time consuming and inconsequential. They'll have to capture a lot of ground around - as he says - somewhere like Robotyne and allow a corridor for tanks and heavy armoured vehicles through to threaten Russian supply lines beyond it.

I have zero military knowledge, but from what I gather though the moment they try and bring that equipment through the reaction will be overwhelming from the Russians and their drones and attack helicopters will have a field day and it;ll be a massacre...which is basically what happened in June and July when the Ukrainians lost tens of thousands of men.

A counter-counter offensive by the Russians - if they're capable of it - in the north east will be catastrophic for Ukraine. Are they just content to hold what they have though.

A New York military hospital today: Band of Brothers...can you spot which one of the Khaki-wearing men have never fought on the front line...

Do you two lay any blame at all at putins feet for this? Is it all just the ukes and nato in your minds?

Suggesting the invaded nation lay down their arms and surrender in order to appease the mass murderer is very strange.
