The next 4 or 5 weeks will decide that. If Ukraine get to HIMARS range of the black sea (Tomak is pretty much that distance) then Russia has essentially no way to resupply along the southern coast.

Nuclear option is over played, Putin cant simply unilaterally decide to lauch a Nuclear device in the same way Biden cant. Even a strategic Nuclear devise would have catastrophic effects on Eastern and central Europe. Wont happen.
It's barking mad talk.

Taske a look at what's been achieved so far after 3 months by the counter offensive in terms of regaining Ukrainian sovereign territory - and you're telling me that the Crimean penininsula is on the brink of changing hands?

It's this type of daydreaming that does the Ukrainian cause no good.

Exactly. These nutters dont care what actually happens, they just cant bring themselves to accept Russia is in relative control of the situation and will dictate the future of Ukraine, no question.

A few James Bond type attacks and they think theyve won

And Russia. You can't poo/nuke your own doorstep.

Putin has put himself exactly where the US want him.

Do they even exist?

No way the Crimea is taken back in any case. I think we'd see mushroom clouds before that ever happened.
You better believe they do. Funding won't stop until the Russian's go back to where they belong. Talking heads on places like Fox are just like Kev really out there in their own conspiracy theories. Reality will set in eventually.

Unfortunately I tend to agree with this. Russia sees Crimea to be as Russian as St Petersburg or Moscow.

Their response to it being invaded would meet with a similar response as if an invading force rolled up on Nevsky Prospekt or Red Square.

It's akin to the Falkland Islands and the UK. Regardless of what the rest of the world thinks, Russia believes Crimea to be Russian soil.

That sparkling analysis aside the fact is the Ukrainian armed forces are about 10k from Tomak, which is about 60-70k to the coast as the crow flies.

If Russia cant resupply their forces by land or sea or air how will they fight when suppies run out.

I've no idea if they will be able to take Crimea as nobody else in this thread does. Slow progress is not no progress. A repeat of last summer was never going to happen given Russian forces had ample time to prepare defenses.

There's no way Trump will lose the Republican ticket now, and if he does it'd be De Santis who is also a Ukraine sceptic.

I agree I think without a wholesale regime change in Ukraine, Russia would probably seek to neutralise the whole country even if the fighting stopped.

Mainly because with the same set of values at government level in Ukraine there can be no lasting peace.
Zelensky may well be corrupt. But on the corrupt country leaders table I doubt he's even in the top 50.

Our own PM's and friends over the Atlantic are way ahead of him...

I know. Complete delusion. Can never happen. Most Russians believe they are winning the war, and to be honest since they are closer to whats going on I tend to believe them.
I really don't understand your whole narrative. Are you wanting the Russians to win? Do you think its ok that they are invading another country for no reason?

Or are you just being the voice of opposition as everyone else supports Ukraine in this war?

I'm really baffled as to why you insist on arguing from the Russian position, when its clear to everyone that the Russians are the bad guys in all this. THe only reason I can fathom is that you are Russian.

Yes, Zelensky may be a bit corrupt (all national leaders are), but he's no where near the levels of Putin. He's the world champion.

Yes I want the Russians to win because primarily I believe they have genuine interests in that area which involve its own security, while we have no interest whatsoever but insist on meddling. The only party that has 'no reason' to be involved is the west.

I am not Russian, in fact born and bred here, but its interesting that you frame this from a strictly nationalist perspective which kind of indicates that is the only angle you can only rationally expect this debate to be fought, probably including your own. I say that not that I think you are Ukrainian but have adopted a typically anglo-saxon perspective which is anti-Russian for historical imperialist reasons.

Its well-known for example that Churchill himself took an anti-German view in WW2 not out of any serious issue with the Germans on ideological grounds, but that he saw it as a challenge to empire, so we have form in that sphere.

Furthermore I believe in the concept of the Balanced of Power and from it I believe justice and order can emerge. Without it we have what we have now, is one power trying to force themselves on everyone else, wether they like it or not.

And by the way, it is not clear to 'everyone' that Putin is the bad guy here, I would guess about 70% of the worlds population dont view it that way at all.

I believe he has family Russian perhaps a Russian Wife. I can see his view having a Russian slant that way. As I would protect my family as well.

But his vision seems lacking and can't see the forest for the trees.
