Paranoia aside, I would love to know what Putin was so scared of so he invaded a democratic nation.
well he had a very large area filled with Russians, on his own doorstep, that was being shelled daily for years, and whose inhabitants desperately wanted to join Russia

So theres that.........

but apart from that, no, nothing I can think of really...

Shelled by who?

I have been of the opinion that this would be Russia's Vietnam of sorts, an unwinable war that drags until an innevitable withdrawl. That said it looks like Ukraine may have had a better handle on the plan and progress than some give them credit for.

From November 2022 defense lines broken through by Christmas, Crimea retaken by spring

Todays intel from the US, who now say that the Ukrainian counteroffensive is increasing and that the Armed Forces have a chance to break through Russian defense lines by the end of the year aligns with what Ukraine had forecast last year.

The training by our Marines and Commandos of a couple of thousand Ukrainian troops for beach landing and raids and amphibious operations can only be for a southern offensive as per the missions this week to Crimea. It may be that the likes of longer range missiles and F-16 have been held back until there is a belief that a finishing blow is on the table.

Ukrainians obvs.

What do you think had been going on there from 2014-22?

Why?

edit. Bentz, my Hungarian mate, did tell me that hardly anyone in the West had a clue about the stuff you allude to, nor the ethnic mix after decades of strife since WW2. He never mentioned shelling though. Persecution? Yep.

Even the eastern regions of Ukraine overwhelming voted for independence in 1991.

Well they could have done, if they had done some research, but the media here has been complicit since 2014 with a wall of silence on the issue - as it suited the anti-Russian narrative.

Based on what, I means actual stuff, not made up stuff.
lets start with the Crimean vote to join Russia for example. Then the referendums in the newly acquired areas subsequently.

You will claim all those voters in these illegal elections were held at gunpoint, and that I am afraid, is where my discussion with you on the issue ends.
