It seems we're itching to be in this war. This will end very badly and is foolish. Putin can rattle more than sabres if he sees the West has declared war on him.

Do people not realise how idiotic this is. Putin has a nuclear arsenal. He doesn't even have to use it to cause us irreparable damage. What if he decided to sell missiles to terrorist groups - they can do the dirty work for him. However we don't have any grown ups in charge in the West anymore. Biden can't finish a sentence before drooling and falling asleep and the UK government distracting from a record of policy failures

A thermonuclear weapon requires a huge number of trained technicians to operate it. It's not the kind of thing that can be passed on to terrorist groups with a quick start manual. A crude dirty bomb maybe.

What we need to do is, and I know this sounds a bit whacky but hear me out. We need to employ Kyle Rittenhouse to be sent as part of a special peace envoy and arm him with an RPG equipped with a thermo nuclear device. The situation will clearly de-escalate and everyone will go home happy.
Will be a victory for the grown ups!

Listen up lad. We too have nuclear weapons, you seem to be forgetting that fact. So Putin and his mates in the Duma can rattle their sabres and wave their dicks as much as they want, because we all know if he uses or allows a bad actor to use a nuclear weapon on his behalf then Russia will be wiped from the planets surface.

Your point is moot as no fool is gonna deploy and use a nuclear weapon in this current situation.

I get your point. But we also can do incalculable damage the other way which makes the whole thing pointless. I'm quite a pacifist by nature, however nuclear weapons and mutually assured destruction is proving to be quite a good protection against military escalation. If nobody had nukes we would surely be involved in ww5 at least by now.

Tbh I don't really read a lot of the mainstream press, so not sure how much I'm influenced that way. I'd say it's equally as dangerous believing everything and believing nothing. These days we have to make efforts to be objective about all the media we consume... Especially catastrophising about Everton

I’m not so sure, as the use of any nuclear weapon would almost certainly draw some kind of conventional military response from NATO (and I’d wager Putin has already been warned of this). Putin surely knows that response would be devastating and fatal to any hopes he has of grinding out this war.

Indeed. The best way to judge what will happen is to put yourself in the position of Putin. What would you do? If I wanted to regain control, I'd put my strongest foot forward and that's my nuclear arsenal and I'd want newspapers to write about it and people in the West to panic about me using it. I ain't messing around. This is serious business. We know he's not afraid of sending a message using chemical and biological weapons. Yet still we continue...

The biggest problem with this though is not the policy, really stupid though it is and embraced by all of our political parties, it's the lack of discussion about the risks. Nobody in the media wants to consider the implications. WWIII is scarily close and we keep upping the ante ...

When you say upping the ante, how many Russian cities, towns and villages have been destroyed ? You are just peddling the Russian line of scaremongering hoping that the west caves. It worked at the beginning and even now it continues by not allowing Ukraine to destroy parts of Russia. Any use of nuclear weapons by Russia would be the end of Russia, so Putin gains what exactly ? You also say that he could give nuclear weapons to terrorists or terrorist states, and we should all be afraid. What if the West gave some of its large nuclear stock to Ukraine, now who should be afraid, certainly Moscow, St Petersburg etc. So do you see how this works. So far Russia has literally gotten away with murder, but Ukraine may well get the upper hand. Any use of a nuclear device would spell disaster for Russia, and Putin and his mates all know this……
