That was all part of the cunning plan…..

incoming pete?

Apparently they’re being carried by SU-24’s. Poland modified the Ukranian aircraft to be able to carry the missile. So this has been in the planning pipeline for sometime. This also means that these weapons are in play right now.

Unlike NATO aircraft, they don’t have a data link between the aircraft and the missile and need to be pre-programmed before launch.
Forward thinking. Mutzo glad you continue to provide exhaustive knowledge for myself and others in layman’s terms. Helps with the big picture. Thank you.

It is incredible that no matter how badly Russia performs in this war there are still people who will argue its all going to plan.

What contingency would involve wasting tens of thousands of men to not take a small town?
The Russians annexed Kherson and lost it again like a month later. I don’t no how anyone can argue it’s going to plan. As you say they have been sending men in to the meat grinder to try and take Bakhmut for months.

What strategic goals is it serving as part of a grander strategy?

Probably the goals include to isolate "the West" from the rest of the world, to distract us from competition with them and China in the rest of the world, to prevent Western interventionism of the kind the US favoured for most of the post-1945 era, to reform the global order into one that benefits them more, to achieve political change in the West via economic damage and to prevent further expansion of the EU (and if possible break it up).

He didn't say that. He asked you indirectly why you believe that it's all going to plan for Russia. And you deflected with this response.

I only jump in on this because having read the last 30 odds pages, I would be interested to see you respond properly to it.

For a start I think you need to understand what "deflected" means - it was an answer to his question.

On the face of it, the ongoing invasion of Ukraine by Russia makes very little sense - economically, politically, militarily. It makes rather more sense as part of a much wider plan, which is why I think people here and in the population at large should stop lapping up all the happy news coming out of Ukraine as if that is the entirity of it and instead ensure that our government is forced into taking measures to prepare us and our society for what might be coming our way.

Biggest contributor of non military aid to Ukraine? The EU.

2 new NATO member states on Russia's border? Check

Ukraine wanting to join both organisations? Yup.

I dont doubt that Russia is playing exactly that game, after all, its been Putin's play book for 15 years. However, if I'm being charitable, he's grossly miscalculated the strength of will in "the west" to stand up to such aggression.

Admittedly, it would have been better to do it in 2014, but we are where we are.
