I’m
This is one of the things that does my head in most about this - that the biggest vulnerability we have as a country, worse than military weakness or unpreparedness, worse than holes in the border or gaps in law enforcement, worse than a weakened health system, worse than the mess that is the national budget is that our politics is blatantly corruptible and blatantly corrupted.
They (and I include the current version of Labour, the Lib Dems and the SNP in this) will take no action that threatens their place at the trough. It has to change because if we don't we run massive risks - if not from a hostile state then from environmental disasters that our leaders are bribed not to deal with or even prepare for.
It's all about maintaining their position rather than real change within the country. Statistically, how often are manifesto pledges actually followed through?
I'm not talking about one party here, but all of them. Yet, the major parties are able to maintain a position in power or as the opposition - it's a closed shop.
The status quo ensures they keep their noses in the trough, with the occasional flip from one side to the other, knowing it'll revert soon enough.
This is why the Tories are happy to be in the pocket of big business and other questionable characters, while Labour have enjoyed the friendship with unions.
Anyway, to the point of aircraft: there are whispers growing that a number of F16s will arrive in Ukraine in sooner rather than later, supplied by an EU country...
... via a maintenance process in the US.
