It will be interesting to see how China responds to this from an economic perspective. Obviously sanctions are only effective if you're not fairly self sufficient. The West relies pretty heavily on China not being economically insular. This could be a turning point for globalisation, especially if it also prompts America to lose patience with European free loading from a military perspective.
A lot of supply chain issues from the pandemic have definitely led to a reassessment of the impact of globalization on self-sufficiency.

Is it though? There were reportedly 200,000 troops staged outside the border when this began.
Well when you consider that coalition forces only lost 292 in the entirety of desert storm (with nearly 1 million troops) - yes.

Does Putin care about his men dying? Probably not. But if (and that's a big if) Ukraine are able to inflict that kind of damage, it implies they're not going to roll over easily.

TBF China relies on China not being economically insular too - I don't expect them to join the cavalcade of sanctions, but I also think they've got a big hold over Russia now given how Putin has just isolated them from the rest of the world.

Globalisation as it has been for the past twenty years is probably dead though, if not countries then blocs need to be self-sufficient where they can.
