Just finished the Dahmer series on Netflix and came out feeling his victims should have done more to negotiate with him. He just wanted a couple of limbs, maybe a heart or two

As always it will be the nature of the guarantees that is what will be important. More "commitments" probably won't wash, but actual boots on the ground in sufficient numbers would. I doubt very much these would be NATO forces (or at least Western NATO forces) but a significant presence from India (for example) would probably help there.
Also in terms of another invasion, a lot of the pro-Russian Western commentators been suggesting the US wants to turn Ukraine into a super-Israel, but I think the invasion almost certainly will do that without US involvement. I don't mean the modern Israeli state that Bibi ruined, but the one that emerged between 1945 and 1967 out of the hard work, ruthlessness and Darwinist process by which inefficient, unlucky or crap people were removed. In fact they could end up with some kind of RKBA paradise over there, with an all-armed citizenry formed into militias - which by itself would probably be an effective deterrent to future invasions. Certainly I'm not sure that many of the Ukrainian oligarchs and mooching politicians are going to be that happy with what follows this in terms of who pays for the reconstruction of the country, too.
One of the most important things though will be for the Ukrainian leadership to be pragmatic with Russia after this, either with Putin or whoever follows him. "Speak softly and carry a big stick" will probably be the order of the day for the next couple of decades.

Just as an aside, filming POWs for political purposes is a fairly massive breach of the Geneva Convention and should never be encouraged.

Its always humiliating, and it appalls me how (and I don't mean you or anyone else on here) so many hacks and people online post that guys videos gleefully for the lulz whilst also being appalled when Aslin and the rest of the volunteers were paraded on Russian state TV.
It is never ok to film guys in that position.
