That number comes from civilian deaths on both sides and the war was literally started by Russia so idk what you are talking about when you say 'Russians weren't there at that point.' The leaders of the People's Republics were all Russian agents and they were supported by Russian military units.

Whether that's due to perceived incompetence, political unreliability or both is another question. There's probably enough ambition amongst the general staff that the answer is most likely the former, as he could arrest and replace if the latter is the problem.

I have to be honest: while I tend to agree with the West's position here, it is extraordinarily difficult to defend it against charges of hypocrisy. It is really hard for an impartial external observer to distinguish between a legitimate plebiscite and one conducted at gunpoint, without being on the ground.

That could be addressed by inviting international observers to sign them off as legit.

Although since several US states don’t allow observers (hello Florida ) the charges of hypocrisy would be valid.

The devil is always in the details on the international observers. It is very difficult to dissociate them from domestic political objectives, seeing how they cannot easily surrender citizenship in protest of the conclusions local pressures compel them to draw.

In general, I think that system is fairly good. At the margins, I start to think it is highly questionable. I don't think Florida's solution is the answer, but then there are a lot of things we do in this country (openly filled in ballot in No. 2 pencil that I then feed into a machine? Seriously?) that I don't think are the answer.

Yes because I've constantly advocated that the war is a good thing.

Besides it's links to the rs, calling me comrade or red btw isn't an offensive thing at all, for one it shows you have zero idea Russia isn't communist anymore, it's actually a right wing leadership, and secondly yup my political opinions are way closer to communist than say Thatcherism.

Fact that a few here think calling someone communist is an insult is bizarre though.
