At the risk of agreeing with Zakharova, there is something immoral about using the guest list of a state funeral to make political points. Those ambassadors who have been received by HM (and will be received again when they are replaced) should have been invited.

The German ambassador was kicked out when war was declared - but this one hasn't been, so should have been invited along with every other ambassador that is in post.
Making a point of not inviting him (and publicizing it) just smacks of gesture politics, which is something there is far too much of nowadays.
This is the country that has mooted using nuclear arms and has turned off the gas supply to Europe. They are (rightly) a pariah state. You’ll be sad the ayatollah and Kim what’s his face aren’t there next.

Iran and NK are sending a representative each though?
This isn't about what they've done, its about diplomatic niceties at significant events. They (Putin and the Ambassador) sent condolences, whatever they were worth, for the death of the Queen. The ambassador is still in post. Inviting the ambassador (or another figure) would have caused zero real-world problems, and not inviting someone solves nothing of the problem at hand.
Yet for some reason our government has decided to use a funeral to make a point.
Fair enough. I honestly don’t think it would be right to invite them. Their country has caused misery for 6 months and is now likely to inflict further suffering over the coming winter, and these ambassadors have remained tight lipped. Consider yourselves ostracised!

Not sure I’d say it was immoral (which I read as unethical/unlawful/sinful) - state funerals are not exempt from political pressures.
But take your point about observing diplomatic conventions and inviting those representatives who you still allow in the country.
Tbh slightly surprised that the Russian ambassador hadn’t been kicked out by Johnson - seems like the sort of gesture he would do.
