2 things;

1) The loan you're talking about wasn't lend lease. Lend lease had no repayments. The clue is in the name. The loan you're talking about was to help the UK buy some equipment from the USA after the war (and the USA sold us that equipment for 10% of it's value).

2) Without lend lease, it's plausible that the UK wouldn't have been able to afford to wage war and defeat fascism. Doesn't sound like a pact with the devil to me.

So you've done an about face,so now it wasn't repaid finally in 2006 and the UK were fighting a war against Communism in Korea with no prompting from the US. You'd have though putting down uprisings against colonial rule with rape ,torture and castration would have kept them busy in Africa. Love to hear your views on why British soldiers took part in the illegal invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq. Was it just a whim?

Coming into this a bit late but you won’t find many people that would disagree that the invasion of Iraq was done under false pretences. 1 million marched in protest if I remember right.
Not sure how this relates to the Russian invasion of Ukraine mind and could be wrong, don’t see any widespread protest in Russia.

It was just in reply to a halfwit who suggested that Iraq invaded Saudi Arabia and that the Iraqis now have full control of their oil sales. And also to point out both are illegal invasions of sovereign states. But then on this thread the levels of hypocrisy are through the roof.

He seems to think that if he continues to highlight historic US/UK (Irish included)/NATO actions it somehow makes current RU actions in UKR less of a thing.
I have told him a number of times that NO ONE on here thinks the west are without blame for their historic actions and it has nothing to do with todays murder in Ukraine by Putins boys.

They both decided way before recent events. Based on history with a toxic dictator of Empire building most of the free world wants nothing what old Putin has on offer. Most of the think tanks agree this has been the most inept command and control army since Iraq being a vaunted fifth best. The main issue is the total loss of life on both sides. Young Russian’s have been slaughtered for no reason because of madness.
