2025/26 Tyrique George

I know we only saw cameos but his pace and positivity alone make me think he’d be a wise signing. Wouldn’t even mind if he was our starting left winger next season.

…he strikes a ‘heavy ball’, I really like that in an attacker. We don’t have enough players who strike a ball sweetly and he does. He has decent size, wouldn’t rule out him playing centrally at some point.

He’s a good player (better than very decent) and could be great one day (better than very good) but I don’t see him as a priority

If we can sign Hackney and George and still have the ability to bring in two full backs, a proper striker and Grealish without selling anyone we don’t want to then we’re gonna have a very very good window

So I hope we do sign him, but not at the expense of bigger priority positions
Without meaning to extend the argument over semantics, if there's a genuine chance of him being 'great' then he has to be a priority surely? Everton have only ever had a couple of players I would call 'great' in the context you're talking about in my entire lifetime, if you really think he could join that extremely short list it's hard to understand how you don't think he's a priority signing.

Ah I think this is a semantics thing here again 🤣
I think we’ve had quite a lot of great players, though not recently apart from Pickford and Branthwaite

I do get your point though but I’d argue there are also a lot of players who look like they could be great but never fulfil that and I think we need a season where we win a lot more games immediately and I’d rather take sure things with lower ceilings to ensure we get there at this point

Yeah I suppose I just think 'great' when you break it down the way you did - specifically saying it's someone you'd class as being better than 'very good' - has to actually mean something. Pickford is very good but not great, Branthwaite I'd say definitely is a level below that in terms of what he's actually produced; he's a very talented lad but he's about to turn 24 and has never finished in the top half and has one England cap, if that's what passes for great these days then I think standards have dropped even further than I thought.

There's a genuine point to be made there though, from what I saw of George he looked decent enough and I wouldn't be surprised to see him have a very good career but I'd be lying if I said he'd blown me away and made me think signing him was a no brainer. The caveat to that is we obviously didn't actually see that much of him so it's possible he would have impressed me more if we had.

Hmm not sure. If someone offered me two steaks, one which was good, one which was very decent, I’d go with the latter.

If you had to choose between a very good steak, and a very decent steak, what are you choosing?

Decent has never been considered better than good! Decent means acceptable, indecent means less than acceptable.

In Everton Land, decent means he’s managed to pass the ball forward a few times.

Ah but that’s very good, not good.

Okay, forget the steaks. If Everton have the chance of signing a good player or a ‘very decent’ one, which one are you choosing?

It wouldn’t surprise me if you’d eschew the good player in favour of the very decent one, because Evertonians are attached to being crap underdogs.

It’s all subjective. In my head very decent > good.

The one he had saved, had he bent out just a tad farther, would have people clammering for him to be signed.
I don't know why people can't see that the mentality and ability is there and just needs a combo of work and luck.

Buy this lad. If it goes wrong we'll still easily make a profit.
