2025/26 Tyler Dibling

He is young, but what does settling mean in this instance? Already played plenty of PL minutes last year? Way more than Armstrong. Adjusting to the climate of the North West? Different water hardness upsetting his gut biome?

He has had substantially less impact on Premier League football this year than last. Regression can’t possibly be a good thing. Not like we have a squad of world beaters blocking his progress.

That kid Arsenal have played a few times has only signed a professional contract this week because he only just turned 17. I’m baffled as to what is going to suddenly click for Dibling just by doing rondos at Finch Farm. He is underperforming massively when he has been on the pitch even compared to his own standards shown last year. Don’t mind at all if he tries and fails to take a man on. Do mind not going crazy trying to win the ball back if he loses it.

Not taking that shot last week is totally about confidence and comfort within the squad, and that’s a big shame for him and us. Seamus’ famed welcome dinner round his gaff for new players obviously didn’t work.

“Oh he needs a quality full back behind him.” Why? He showed more for a embarrassment of a Southampton team that were one of the worst the PL has ever seen.

Somethings up. I also think if we can somehow have the patience to keep playing him without sacrificing too many points it will work out. He is clearly ultra talented with the ball at his feet. But other than a couple of decent games, he has been objectively and visually awful.
Progress isn't always linear

To be fair he’s come from a team with attacking overlapping full backs, to one with CBs playing RB.
His style has had to change to accommodate that, plus the bit part role he has with limited games. (I bet in training he has Patto going past him etc)
I’m holding judgement until he’s utilised in the way he was bought for and his confidence is back.

He was the new Martin Dobson wasn't he?

He was actually very, very good when I was a regular at St Marys back in the day.
Man Utd killed him as a footballer. By the time he got here it was just for the payday.

Strangely we could do the same to Dibling as Utd did to him. Play out of position, short cameos, moan about the bits of his play which he was never bought for anyway. I think Dibling will go sooner than later now, if the club can get most of their money back.
