Reply today, from a mate who is a season ticket holder at Southampton.

I have to say that apart from one or two instances he was generally ineffective at Saints, we could never understand all the hype , and the price achieved.

This somewhat clashes with their fans saying the opposite earlier, a very conveniently voiced opinion today/right now.

He seems to me like he is more suited to ball retain and play making rather than being a flat out winger.

Hes not quick and he's not tricky, but he can hold the ball out wide and dribble.

For me, he looked very low on confidence today. He was hiding for big parts of the match and there were times when rather than risk something, he took the easy option.

I think there's a player in there but he needs to get some confidence back and be allowed the chance to learn.

That's his game though, once he moves in centrally you see a totally different player.
I'm not trying to make excuses for him.
But that's where you see him more alive and the best of him..

The telling part to me was when he gave away the ball on the edge of the Everton penalty area. Ok he should have passed the ball but he was intentionally delaying the pass to allow time for a run for a more progressive pass...which never happened. I understand that ok he shouldn't be taking risk there by the textbook but for a team to progress with the ball the movement off the ball has to be so much better.

…I fully agree with that. McNeil is what you see, Dibling has a much higher ceiling. Much prefer Dibling, was encouraged by him v Forest but I recognise why McNeil plays more.

I just want him to be good, I thought he started the 2nd half ok, coming inside more to get involved (like McNeil does) but that was short lived.

No idea why he continues to disappoint, unless you’re close to the camp I think we can only guess. Love to know what his teammates think of him, as Armstrong said, you’re ability is tested and have to earn their respect.

I'm absolutely bewildered after his display today. Disgraceful lack of commitment , hunger and desire. Just pathetic

Are we in a position to be spending £40m on players who might be good enough in the future when we have the worst strikers and full backs in the league?

We obviously didn't spend the money well in the summer but people saying he's a dud and he's worse than McNeil after literally a few starts is absolutely ridiculous

When you see him play for England, Carsley let's him play with that freedom and he is totally different than what we are seeing.
The quality in that England team and they all happily look for him.

You sign a player for what they offer, don't than try to restrict it or train it out of the player..

The problem I have with him is he just doesn't look bothered when given the chance. Yes he is young but he played a full season in the prem last season with Southampton. Armstrong has barely any prem experience and is younger and has shown a lot more in a couple of games than Dibling. I have no problem him not being the finished article yet but he is absolutely no where near ready and he cost us a lot of money. Very poor recruitment.

Its not "poor recruitment" to sign a highly talented 19 year old England u21 international footballer who performed well at the age of 18.

You can compare him last season with Harrison Armstrong this season.

Two huge prospects. Should we sign Armstrong for £40mil if he was at Wolves, West Ham or Burnley?

Its OBVIOUS that he is not being man managed well and Moyes underlined this with his comments last week.

Its good recruitment and poor management.

Can't help but feeling this lad might need a Martinez or an Ancelotti. The sort to get in his head and make him feel 10ft tall. Tell him to go and play his game.

He just looks totally devoid of confidence. Moyes instructions are probably sucking the flair out of his game with endless instructions based on defending and not trying anything too adventurous.

Same as weve seen with Alcaraz. Went from a maverick last season to in a shell this season.

Every single player on the pitch looked terrified to play a forward ball. Every single one was turning down simple five yard forward balls. Dibling just looks terrified of losing the ball.

Same as Alcaraz. They know that if they try things they will be dropped. Doesnt matter if they come off and they get goals, assists or motm Moyes will drop them.

Think Dibling has been stitched up a bit myself. We take for granted how well Ndiaye deals with the lack of support and overlapping runs, when we see Dibling pick up the ball completely isolated on the right there's an expectation that he needs to do what Illi does in that situation which isn't realistic.

Which isn't to say he hasn't looked poor at times but I think his confidence is absolutely shot. We knew when we signed him he was a player who would need a bit of an arm round the shoulder and for whatever reason he's not got that from Moyes. Barely got a look in and been hooked at half time twice, he looks terrified to play his game.

Armstrong has been away from Moyes and looks quality (like Dibling last season at the same age).

Aznou has not had a single minute from this manager and looks angry and also quality.

This manager has seriously got a lot to answer for with all 3 players at the moment.

Well if he loses it once he's not getting first team football for a few months, can't blame him.

Same as Alcaraz and his "unknown" injury. Hes probably asked for a move away from this coward.

He's never shown he had pace though so I'm not sure why people are expecting him to be lightning and whizz past people on the outside

He's Grealish, but on the right.

Thats it. Put Grealish on the right in the exact circumstances and im sure he'd do better, because hes a different character and experienced.

But he'd be getting absolute pelters from the fans.

Think we should try him as a 10 now there is little to play for. Developing one of our most expensive assets over the rest of the games would be a little bit of good news from another cr*p season.

Moyes should have been doing this all season with Armstrong, Dibling and Aznou.

As it turns out, Aznou is playing angry, Dibling has lost all confidence and Armstrong was developed elsewhere.

Perhaps Moyes knows he cant develop young players at this point which is why he wants Armstrong to go back to Preston?

Also it's no coincidence that he played well away to Forest and Burnley. He's a young lad who is finding his feet. He doesn't need to be booed and geared by his own fans. Do people think that will help him play better? You would have thought they would have learnt their lesson after hounding out DCL.

I expect his better performances to continue to come away from home until the home crowd lighten up and give the young players time to improve.

Precisely and this is something in part why i want us to sign Norton-Cuffy for right back over Holm.

He's played with Dibling before for England u21s and will be able to sync together on the right long term.

Right now he hasn't had the impact we wanted him to. I'm not giving up on him. I just think he doesn't look up to it and he's clearly struggled moving up here. It happens.
